The seat on the Falco looks thin as a rollie paper but (... ha, a funnie.. but/butt.. ah never mind..) but is made of this magic foam that works well.

The other Falco/TRX similarity is the abcence of bodywork and all the mechanical shit out there for all to see. I like that.. full fairings suck (sorry quan..)

That 's the funny part, lots of people forget about the Falco.
I don't understand why it never became popular.
Maybe it was too expensive compared to the RSV Mille?
rjen wrote:8< Interesting that you say about the clip-ons position. No review I've read mentions this. All reviews say that it's the most comfy bike in its class!
I think that's because it depends of what you are comparing. Related to the Mille, I'm sure the Falco will be comfy.

And a beautiful frame to look at! Applies for both bikes.

Taking it into the extreme, one could state that the Falco is the reason it's not worth modifying a TRX with a bucketload of €€€ or $$$... it has more power and a UPSD fork just when it comes out the factory!

sat with a Falco/tuono (can't tell the difference) on the way home tonight. Lovely snort better styiling, but better bike?
TRX's are real world bikes, if I wanted to go back to sports bikes i'd buy a mille.
Or is it old age?

Well, I can speak from experience.
I owned my TRX for over 2 years and traveled nearly 50,000k's on it
I now own an Aprilia RSV1000R and have done about 4,000k's.
I miss the TRX because of its easy to ride fast nature. The RSV is more work. Much higher seat, longer reach to the lower bars etc.
Don't get me wrong, I love the RSV.
But I think that if I was to throw maybe $4,000 at the TRX I would've had a very rideable bike that wouldn't give anything away to the RSV except on the straights.
The Falco may be interesting. a more comfortable RSV may have some merrit.
Life is pretty straight without twisties.

i think phuk and honk have 100hp from their trx's. Sure its not 120, but you aint gonna be giving much away really.

I guess its all relative.
Here in australia, a RSV, 749, TLR, these are all bikes which cost heaps 2nd hand, mainly because there was never alot sold in the 1st place. Aussie land gets screwed over for 2 reasons, we aint a huge biker nation, and import tax bones us. its CHEAPER to buy a bike brand new from japan, import it yourself. Same with cars. But we AINT allowed to do that because of the import law. Car must be 2nd hand and over 10 years old. Its STILL cheaper to import a car 2nd hand than buy a 2nd from a car yard. This ruined the dodgy mark up on 2nd cars, so the govt changed it to 15 years..

Thats a whole other story.
Back on topic, id rather spend the 4k on a bike you enjoy and love than sell it, spend it all on a bigger "pure" sports bike or whatever. The end result will be SOO much better.

Just from my experience of racing both the TLR and TRX in 4hr endurance races.

Same track, same weather, same tires, same class...

TLR best lap 1:38.3
TRX best lap 1:38.6

Top end was probably 50kms faster on the TLR but man... the bitch wouldn't stop, wouldn't turn and ate rear brake pads (trying to keep the arse end down and tightening up turns). It was so much harder to turn the same lap time with the TLR and I did run off the track twice during the race with the arse end in the air.

With the TRX I could run the pace all day long and smile.

Actual weight really wasn't that much different but it felt like an uncomfortable fat pig with a hot seat (rear cylinder). It was way too front heavy.

It did have a nice engine and smooth gearbox though.

Quan.. I see you have never shopped for bikes and cars in the UK, or the rest of the EU for that matter. The on the road price for a Triumph Sprint 1050ST is way cheaper here than in pommyland, and we also get free panniers... WTF? Just spend 30min on the web and you will see that we are better off than all but the yanks. As for grey imports, I'd do that for bikes from the US and get summat over 400cc #-o

Back on topic... I love my TRX.. but one day I will wear it out, its got 94000km on now and I will need to retire it. It will never be sold. So of course I look for that special bike with the same level of sporting fun, touring practicallity and oddball style the TRX has. Things like the 749, RSV1000, Tuono etc hold their value.. but Aprilia struggled to sell the SL1000 falco and its cheap 2nd hand.. =D>.. well it was before this thread started anyway..

Its true that ive never shopped for complete bikes over seas, but never seen the actual need to.. i should prolly do that.. BUT seeing new cars / bikes, check the currency conversion, check import, oh wait.. not allowed.. booo

As for Max's statement about lap times.. my local track is Mallala raceway. There was a dude once on a stock (so someone told me) TRX with lambs wool seat cover and all.. He was doing 1:25.x which rivals most 600cc sports.. Its REALLY respectable. Main reason,, its a very tight and small track. The TRX drops really well, and you can rely on pulling your ass outta the corner easily.

Sports bikes can do that aswell, but ive noticed they struggle dropping side to side and maintaining corner speed.. They seem to brake harder and use RPM to do the work rather than inertia / physical speed.. So yer.. weird.

the 1000ccs tho do quite well.. But only marginally faster than the 600cc because its a small track.. But on the back straight they blitz past me :(

Don't use the TRX to set lap times, but again there is no direct correlation between lap times and fun.. and yes the TLR100R Suzuki is a barge. Am also aware that there is plenty of modern kit about ( that I cant afford..like a 848 Duck =P~ ) that can hand the TRX its arse on a platter.

But this Saturday took the TRX for a strop in the hills... played with the R1 brigade on the Norton Summit/Lobie Road... rounded up some 300kg pieces of chromed costume jewellrey (aka H-D's) up Willunga Hill... chased a squid on a R6 along the Dellemere to Victor Rd... slowed it back down to ride with a F800 & ST2 Duck on the Victor/Medows run.. then fanged it along Ridgetop Road, down Corkscrew Road and up the Gorge to home. Then on Sunday with my 8 year old daughter on pillion and the Missus in tow on the GS500 Suzuki we took a nice cruise to Lobethal Beer House for lunch and to buy a 2 litre bottle of their finest pilsner.....

Fuggin ace bike the TRX. =D>

Will be impossible to replace it I suspect [-(

Cheers

I got my trx off a guy who had both a TRX and a TL. i almost had to pry the TRX out of his fingers. he said he wishes he never sold it to me.
Im looking in to Falco. im 6 4 and about 130 kg so the trx is great but i realy want somthing a bit bigger under me. I have found several here in the uk for like £2500 take it back to New Zealand (500 pound ish) in a year and do the cureny conversion, 7400NZD approx. i will be laughing. there were two on trade me for 11000nzd last week. + the fact that im earning pound and it will only be 2500 out of my pocket. it will be many years befor i could afford to spend $11000 on a bike back home.
The english are so lucky with the cost of bikes vs the money earned. my mates Tl only cost him £2200 all up after doing a bit of work on it.
Is it Brock friendly???
