Its a very long time since I had carbs pulled down to that level, but I think the O ring came out on the end of the slide housing. If yours is still stuck in the carb body then I'd just scrape it out as it's probably perished. Replace everything on the carbs with a Viton kit from Litetek.

hi dicky, thanks for your reply, the problem is the o-ring has moved farther down the brass inner tube and i cant dig it out, please bare in mind that this part #3GM-1411A-00 is from a fzr 1000 (1995) not a trx.

A picture might helps us understand better, but unfortunately you can't simply upload it to the forum. Stick a pic on Flickr etc and link to it.
The carbs are both Muikuni BDST's and are almost identical.
Litetek also have kits for FZR1000's.
Viton gaskets and O rings don't perish and the kits from Litetek are ridiculously cheap.
