TRX winter diet

Trying to shed weight from my track only TRX and have achieved the following so far.

I estimate complete stock exhaust system is 16kg's which has been replaced with 4.6kg Akra (full system)

Big box of road bits (all lights, rad fan, switch gear, ign lock, no. plate, chain guard, mirrors etc) at 5.4kg.

Airbox was a whopper but I binned it and did not weigh it. 2kg's I reckon.

Wet battery is 3.6kg's which will swap for Li ion battery and lose another 2.85kg's so must be close to 170kg dry.

Now I'm getting desperate and chopping redundant brackets and metal work from the frame and rear end which will give me another 750g's.

YZF rear wheel was surprisingly lighter than the TRX one and I will have added a bit with YZF braced swinger and USD's.

Can't help thinking further significant weight loss will start to cost big bucks (e.g. wheels would be nice).

Harris GRP single seat unit will help and maybe GRP fairing and ally mount if I can find/make one and I could butcher the clocks.

Funny what keeps you entertained as the autumn evenings start to close in.

You'll know that it's an obsession when you start drilling stuff I think it was Honk who drilled his rectifier. It all adds up in the end and then we blow it all by having big breakfasts and topping the tank up after each session

Yup thats next in line but I want to keep the under seat electrics dry as well.

Feels quite reckless; out there now chopping bits off with a grinder.

Think am well past the point of no return re: returning it to road use.

Someone recently changed the rear brake set up to one of a R6 and mentioned a weight saving there also.
I know I'm well under 190kg wet from 203kg with much the same setup as you. Std fairing weighs a good couple of kgs more than raceglass.. So I've saved a little more there too.

Have in mind a little Brembo rear caliper from a Piaggio scooter (Kayla recommended this).

Just needs a caliper carrier to be made up and will weigh a fraction of the original one with a smaller/thinner rear disc.

GRP bodywork is at the top of my list as well.

Trying to work out where I can weigh the entire bike accurately. Could hang it from a load on the works fork truck??

Maybe you could try putting less oil in, that would help save weight!

PS i had a crafty extra day at cadwell monday with coxylad and Kayla and them lot from up norf.
see trackday reports for pic of 2 trx's in hall bends. Maybe we can get more in 1 shot next year.
Also never underestimate a good rider on a CB500!
