I've always had good experience with Ferodo motorcycle pads but now use Brembo SC; horribly pricey but excellent.

I'm using Galfer pads in my standard calipers and quite like them.

These ones;

When/if you take the discs off to do them give the surfaces a quick scuff over with some scotchbrite (or other abrasive), that'll help the new pads bed in and also help remove any old residue that brake cleaner and a rag might not get :D

handsomejackuk wrote:bike passed the m.o.t ok.. but the front brakes were crap... anyway had a bit of a strip down last nite and tonite...; last nite i took the pads out give them a good clean polished the pad retainer pins, and scuffed the pads up with some sandpaper.. also found that one of the R clips was missing holding the pin in.. got some new ones today, anyway tonite, i took the one caliper off give it thorough clean / degrease, and polished it all up... got it reassembled just got the other to do tomorrow, anyway after todays short ride the brakes seem to have loads more initial bit, i think once they all cleaned up, and pistons worked in and out they be loads better... i tempted to remove the disks too and give them a damn good clean...

thanks Al.
I'd be tempted to leave the discs in place if I were you and clean them on the wheel; when ever I have removed them the bolts feel as though they are going to pick up and strip the thread out of the wheel. Think they locktite em in at the factory and mine were tight as...........

Just a thought.

handsomejackuk wrote:as for pads i gonna keep these for now, and my mate was saying the goldfren ones at M and P suppose dot be good...

anyone used them ?
I haven't used the goldfren pads myself purely because i got put off by the amount of negative views about them. Some people from one of the CBR forums that i'm on have used them and reports aren't good to be honest. Wooden feeling and lacking in bite, remember someone saying they felt like they never bedded in. Personally i stick with well known brands, primarily EBC, and never had a problem with them. Usually every 1000 miles i pump out the pistons in turn and clean around them and while i'm there de-glaze the pads. Seems to keep everything sharp.

I think the pads that came in miss blackie's front calipers may have been goldfren.
Did not like them.
