Nice to hear that 900 rods are stronger but is this just heresay or has anyone actually tested them and found this to be the case?

I've never heard (yet) of anyone building a motor poducing sustantially more power using Tdm900 rods and the revving it to 9000rpm.

I'd be happy to hear a lot more substantive information to back up this claim.

Take it up with Yamaha. The technical brief for the then just released TDM claimed stronger rods than the TRX due to a change in material spec and heat treatment.

There was this other lad, who raced his topnotch-tuned TRX... Not too long ago!

Racing is a different story but ....

You have to remember (if you believe peoples dyno charts) that you are taking a stock motor and pushing another 50% power through it. I have heard of lots of claims of 100bhp plus at the wheel (and seen dyno charts) but not seen many starting points.

Lots of people bang their TRX onto a dyno and receive a print out that says 80+ with a standard motor and end cans. THAT IS NOT A PROPER AT THE WHEEL FIGURE.

When I started tuning my bike, I started at 72bhp at the wheel. Adding Akra pipework (and a few other bits) shoved the figure up to just shy of 80 but it wasn't until I added the Devil can that I broke the 80bhp mark.

Cams, flowing, porting, big bore kit and lots of dyno work got me to the mid 94. The final piece of the puzzle was FCRs which saw me break the 100 bhp mark.

That represents a power increase of 145% over stock. And I never had any issues with con rods on that motor.

I have to agree with you on that. Mine was the same on the dyno starting off at a measly 70hp and proper tuning and cans got me to 76 then finally just shy of 87 with FCRs... But now I have some new toys, kent cams and a full Akrapovic system so it would be nice to know the output before the larger valves go in and 878 kit.

I've been quoted 230 GBP excl VAT although Mark paid 220 GBP incl.

Yamaha Technical Bullitin states "Newly designed carburized connecting rods which are 12% lighter than the TDM/TRX850" ....whatever carburized means???

The guy who owned yt TDM900 before me had Carillo rods fitted by TTS when they were modifying it - complete waste of £££ for a road engine IMO but I suppose he was talked into it cos they sound the part!
