Aftermarket cans (AU)

Post by Browne81 » Wed Feb 27, 2013 7:27 am

Hi Guys,

in the near-ish future once I've made sure my rebuilt TRX isn't going to die on me again (and saved up a bit of money) I think I'll replace the stock cans with some aftermarket slip-on ones. From what I read the main benefit of aftermarket cans is weight, reducing overall weight and shifting the balance forward a bit. Can anybody tell me how much of a difference it makes? I am aware they will make little to no difference as far as engine power goes.

A quick Ebay search turned up these from a Perth based seller as the only TRX options:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Yamaha-TRX85 ... 257b231fde

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Yamaha-TRX85 ... 257b231ed9

Seems to be suspiciously cheap but the seller has been on Ebay since 2007 and has 100% positive feedback. Anybody dealt with the seller or these make of exhaust?

Cheers
Browney

Both seem to be well made. Ixil have been around for a while and i've seen them on other bikes before but not Rex's. I would go for them as they are stainless and should last well. When i first changed my original exhaust over i couldn't believe the weight difference. Almost threw the bike over getting it off the sidestand  With a free flowing exhaust system i would say that you will notice a difference to the power delivery as well. Crisper throttle response, but that might be just because you'll be enjoying the sound more and playing with the throttle. Interested to hear your feedback when you've decided which way to go.

Send a message or goggle the company and contact them directly to find out if the can is just a generic slip on can only and you still need to supply your own link pipe from the can to the headers or its all in one with a link pipe on the can. I had a can made by MEGACYCLE Engineering / Exhaust down in Victoria .. Was just over $300 delivered and gave me a choice of either 50 , 55 or 58 mm outlet. Just get a local exhaust mob to make a link for you. There's a few in brisbane .. One at Moss st slacks ck, Pipemasters at Albion and Tranzac as Fung said

Ditto Cobba on the Megacycles. Good quality, good price and Aussie made.

Pretty sure Megacycle closed down... :(

Those IXIL/Screaming Demon ones look OK, brother in law had a set of Screaming Demons on his SV1000, very nice.

I have purchased other stuff off SDR before, very good to deal with

Just got off the phone to Ken from MEGACYCLE . He's now working from under the house still building his mufflers. He's driving a water truck for a couple of days a week and then still follows his passion the rest of the week. I'll look at getting one made myself for the Akrapovic system..

Good to hear that Ken's still in the business. He deserves better - he makes a good product at a sensible price and gave good service. But how can you compete with cheap Chinese knock-offs at giveaway prices?

Yes exactly.. First came across his systems back in mid 80's and have always found praise from everyone on his gear. And as loud as my can was by goin with the largest outlet option it still had that sweet mellow MEGACYCLE tone to deal with the pulse.. Stick with the local made product and give him a call and make him aware you found out about it on the TRX forum
