R6 Bits....

Hi guys, Blindo here in Sth Aust, had a question for all the tech dudes out there......

I was wondering if R6 forks would be suitable for use on my 95 Japanese import? Have heard they are too short/soft but Im not sure..... Anyone?
Also, have any of you out there attempted fitting R6 swing arms?? Cheers

The early RWU R6 forks, are they 41 or 43mm? Don`t worry too much about fork lengths, you can have them extended or even utilise stepped yokes.
The USD R6 forks are virtually identical to R1 forks, not sure about the spring rates though.
R6 swingarm? been done, as has R1 swingarm but a fair bit of work involved it`s not `plug and play`.

cheers blokes, well after a bit of research it seems to me that a complete R1 front end will be the go, as it will run the 80series tyre. Ive located one or two good examples out of the states, Mincehead, do you know if there are any stepped yokes available for sale online?? or any example pics on the forum? Also, is there an after market fork extension kit....... like i say im pretty new to this! Cheers fellas.

Hi Blindo, don't forget the Aprilia fronts as well..ITALIAN..very nice too..albeit away from yamaha..,whatever you choose and usually depends on what you can find..buy the whole front, just have the trx steering stem fitted to the lower triple of whatever it is and away you go.

Hmm Aprilia, ok i never would have thought to look at them, I was focussing on Yamaha as i know the R1/6 quite well, which models would I be looking for Alex?

I'd be mostly to the 2004..2006 RSV series,Blindo...nice pieces of gear and would be as capable as the r1 fronts..brembos as well.

All early Rsv's, Tuono's and Falco's have pretty much the same forks throughout the range and production run, either 53mm Showa or 51mm Ohlins. Depends whether its the standard version or a higher spec ie R or Factory. The Showa are 53mm all the way but the Ohlins are 51mm top yoke and 56mm bottom. If your gathering the bits separately watch out, better to get the whole front if you can, watch out for the brakes as well ie non radial and radial.
Imho a standard Falco set up with Showa/Brembo's is more than adequate. And probably the cheapest to buy.

managed to obtain 04 R1 front end from the states, complete bar front wheel. the fitting fun will commence this winter......
