I have proof!!

Post by Rod.s » Wed Oct 31, 2012 9:30 am

Some of you may remember i questioned the crap that we all find in our carbs and from where it was coming!!

Some photo's to jog your memory :D

The crap, which i believe is rubber from the rear tyre, flung onto the engine and then sucked into the carbs

The see through standard Yamaha filter

The issues as I see them....

Well my solution was to fit a crank case breather/filter, like thus, you can see the standard Yamaha sucker on the right still fitted

Well today was carb day at the Smith house, and i was itching to have a look at the carbs innards 8-[
After 500ishK's the difference is obvious, carb on the left "Yamaha" breather = crap....carb on the right an aftermarket crankcase breather = No crap :D
Yep i have now fitted the other aftermarket breather to the recalcitrant carb :D

If it's not made in China, it's a fake!

Well, there,s food for thought...without doubt the paper style filter has done its job well..ineresting to what the rubber type of crud it is and where its coming from..tyre..yeah....what about old rubber tubeing delaminating...something thereabouts...at least its not coming from the slides and a filter fixes it..well done =D>

I still think it's the tyre :thumbright: as the rubber I tear up has got to go somewhere :D Much like the reason for the MX goggles i wear, they protect me from the dirt/mud/crap the tyre throws forward that i eventually ride through. I surmise that the rubber thrown forward has to go somewhere and as the carbs are sucking air......It would be interesting to see the innards of someones carbs from a bike that has a rear huger fitted (after cleaning the carbs first )

interesting, and presumably all sorts of coarse dust could work its way in there too, which could there conceivably work its way into the needle jets and cause the needles and jets to wear out prematurely.

well, last week i pulled my carbs apart and found them chokka with the black stuff  and put it down to the wear from the slides. it felt the same as plastic more so than rubber...but you throw up an interesting alternative....mike

If your slides wore at that rate then you would have to replace them at the same time as your tyres
