Re: B-art's Build
Thanks guys
As said some details to be done.
One of them is the German MOT called TUV.
Before I started the build there was contact with the TUV to clear what i could do to the frame.
Some of my collegues suggested that this would positively influence the test at a later date.
Well it past and the man of the TUV was very pleased with the result so it passed.
All is now official in the papers.
I'm very happy

Re: B-art's Build
As You all know, a project is never done
UPDATE 1:
Bought some R6 calipers that should help the soft feel in the brake lever. Bearded lines where already fitted during the build-up.
It might has improved the feel but I did Only 350km before taking it apart. Comparing and it 6 months later is a bit hard.
During the TRX meeting in the Blackforest I have felt a bike with R6 calipers and TRX pump and one with Cat Brakes and TRX pump.
They felt good and for me the way to go as in no need for an R6 pump.
Fitting was easy and de-airing no problem.
Standing next to the bike the brake feel felt good and hard.
But after riding it for a few km from work home it felt to hard ...to hard?
So after a day riding I did not felt comfortable with this new set up.
Back to e-bay hunting for an R6 pump. After 2 attempts I had luck and bought one for a good price.
Now it feels good and the braking seems to be better. And after some km's of spirited riding the "initial-workshop-feel" was confirmed.

UPDATE 2:
As I have worked in the past for Hyperpro (1996-2000 )and still have good contacts there.
I talked to my Brother (head of development) there I ordered a spring set.
As we talked about the TRX and the feel that I have with the OEM set up we decided to test a new spring set (Replacement springs for Fork and OEM shock.
So in did go some new fork oil and new fork springs.

And a new spring for the still good working OEM shock. Spring is for the TRX cup France.

UPDATE 3:
Small one this one
For the initial build I bought some e-bay imitation Yamaha logos as the OEM ones are quite expensive.
But they pealed of the very clean tank due to the temperature contraction and and expansion of the plastic producing the 3D dome effect.
After seeing the new Logos on the new SuperTenere 1200 I decided to order 2 on those.
My wife laughed Shortly very strange after hearing the price ah the Yamaha Dealer.
But is all okay now as they look very good.

Work will continue.
-Compleet new shock?
-Reworked fork?
-New or changed exhaust?
-...

Re: B-art's Build
Nice work B-art she`s looking very pretty.
I like Hyperpro stuff and of course they have TRX `history` via the Troll.
I`ve got a Hyperpro steering damper that likely won`t get used on my TRX build, they are inherantly very stable and don`t shake their heads too much if set up correctly.

Re: B-art's Build,...continues
Last week my TRX went to Hyperpro in the Netherlands, as they wanted it to use at the Utrecht Motorcycle (start of season) show.
There for there was a need for some suspension upgrading.
The Idea was to change the rear shock to one of their new style rear shocks.
....No problem lets do that

For the front the idea was to change the old style 4 stage damping system to a cartridge system. Doing the work at Hyperpro.
I bought a bent R6 fork on the net, to use those cartridges in the TRX fork.
Well....that turned out to be not that easy as thought.
The thick cartridge did not fit in the motor of the chrome tube and the TRX fork is about 3cm longer than the R6.
Making the cartridge fit the fork is not impossible, but involves work on the chrome leg and the cartridge.
If that all would fit the real work still had to be done.

Next to that the chrome leg had some deep markings, making all the work a bit questionable.
So we put the fork back together and the TRX went to the show.

After some debate and consulting the next idea came with an offer.
An offer in the form of a offer-I-can-not-refuse....R1 upside down fork.
Point is that it is only the legs of a 2003 R1.
-will the TRX steering axle fit in the R1 lower triple clamp?
-Will the TRX front wheel (disks) line up with the R6 calipers on the R1 fork?
- I know the TRX front axle will not fit R1 fork
-steering lock??
Does any of You have a tip on what problems I may encounter trying to fit an R1 for in a TRX?

Re: B-art's Build,...continues
Some very nice work there B-art.
I have put '98 - '01 R1 forks in mine. I found the easiest way was to use the entire R1 front end. ie: forks, crowns, wheel, calipers and rotors. That way the only thing I needed to do was have a steering pin machined up, being R1 specs at the lower crown and TRX specs on the top as well as a spacer pressed into the top yoke to accommodate the smaller diameter of the steering pin at the top. I don't think the '03 forks differ too much.
There are others here who undoubtedly know more than me about differing compatibility of fork/wheel/caliper/rotor sizes etc, so someone may give you a more detailed answer.
You will also find a wealth of info on this if you search R1 fork. That is where I got most of the info I needed when I decided to do my conversion.
Hope this helps.

News from the front-end
Well need to upload the pics but the front is in.
The R1 form is an RN04 type 1999-2001 not the 2003 fork I thought ist was (Axle mount is different.
The triple clamps I used are R1 RN09.
The fork diameter stayed the same for many years (looking at the part number for the outer tube) also RN12 fits as I have a top triple clamp.
TRX front wheel and disks are used and line up perfectly to the bleu spot calipers.
Steering axle is pressed in with a hard steel filler sheet instead of a weld up. We just wanted to try this route.
Re-used the 2000 KM old roller bearings I put in last year.
Spacers made for:
- Top triple clamp to correct diameter and hight.
- TRX axle to fill diameter diference in axle and fork.
The axle is locked on the Left side with a Bolt in the axle (thread is cut in the axle)
and on the Right side with the axle clamp bolt of the R1 fork.
The fork receive new SKF low friction seal kit new Hyperpro Progressive springs and Fork oil.
Brake lines are also new as the TRX size was way to long an interfered with steering.
Steering lock is not usable any more, we changed it so the Electrical part is 100% functional and in place.
Mad plastic spacer and new mount plate.
After bleeding the brakes and checking static sag it was time for the first ride.
Feel is plated but agile, well balanced firm but softening the bumps better than the old fork.
Turn in is good but will have to get used to the new feel and get confidence in the new potential.
In all I am a Happy with this change.
Pics are coming.

How does the rear shock come apart... can the spring be removed easily. I would like to tear mine down this winter? And give it a good clean

Top work B-art.
Looking at your bike makes me wonder why Yamaha isn't building something like this - surely there'd be a market. I'd buy one.

Re: B-art's Build
Thank you
Than you can take the Slotted plate out (picture bottom Left, also the position on shock) and change the spring

A spring removal tool can look like this.
My Brother is a bit quick so pic alway get blurry

Ore a simpler version over UK seller.

NOTE: If you never hare done before, please do NOT try without the proper tool. The spring is under pressure and people will get hurt if removed incorrect. Why? Because I know.
Hope this helps.
