FZR Headlight questions...

Post by M.V. » Tue Sep 04, 2012 4:55 am

I now have a Dual Projector FZR headlight, courtesy of XXR55, but I need to know:

What kind of globes it takes: they look weird & there's no marks on them.

What model FZR it is out of: I need get the two rubber covers for the back.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Cheers.

I am pretty sure the globe are H1.

For the rubber booths on the back that should be a fairly standard part, ask any wreckers for the booth on the back a headlight and they are pretty much all the same, car or bike

this an unusual bulb, only common to the FZR400RR and some import japanese cars.
i cannot remember offhand the bulb number, but it is not h1 , h4 or h7 and there isnt an HID kit suitable:(
cheers

A while back i found those bulbs on wemoto but can´t find em now.
Mate with TRX has HID converted a FZR1000 headlight and i think i´ll go down that path when my red ring one dies....

From the pic of the rear of the headlight, they look like H4's to me.

H4's have three pins, where H7's only have two pins (my car uses H7's, both bikes use H4's).

soz skybone, but they aint at all like an H4.
Smaller in diameter and a different flange. Check the bulb dimensions.
Also the reflector only works with the projector type bulb as it will not spread or penetrate with a std bulb.
Been there done that.
I came to the conclusion that the oem headlight with HID is the way to go, and i'll leave the 3tj unit unmolested :)

You may be onto something there, I just compared it to a H4, identical pin width & spacing, just smaller... Mini H4?

FIg 3 on this page looks like it:

I respectfully disagree :)

Dual projectors with single filament HID in each I think is the way to go, one headlight is lo beam with a cutoff, second beam has no cutoff & you can run both for hi beam or swap between the two. I think both would be best.

I just went & adjusted my stock headlight with 55W HID & it's much better, low beam is actually very good! But the problem I have is the cut off seems to swap around & on hi beam you lose everything below the cutoff... Admittedly, I have never actually set it to spec, just a rough "She'll be right", so I'll run that for a bit & see if it's any better. I guess hi beam is not actually any brighter than lo beam is it?

I have found some projectors that could potentially be retrofitted into the FZR headlight, but I will test out my properly setup HID before commiting to that.

Was just commenting that the bulbs shown in the pic couldn't have been H7's, as the one's shown were 3 prong/terminal units, where H7's are two prong/terminal.

Haven't seen an FZR400 light unit up close enough to ascertain which bulb they take.

As far as I can work out, the globes are something along the line of H4H (702K) & they are common to some Japanese cars. SOme of these Japanese cars also come standard with HID globes.

There are also HID globes available out of China :) Happy days.

EDIT :: P30t-40 is the type of bulb. i think they are a 55w/40w and the std setup is for both on low beam, and both on high beam.
hope this helps.

So I think I have a clear course of action... for now

I found some H4H (or 702K...) HID globes, they are a short globe & appear to have the 'filament' of the HID globe in the right spot to use the FZR projectors, fingers crossed. If not, I'll need to retrofit HID projector into the FZR headlight housing, not a big issue, just more $$$.

Seeing as they H4H are a dual filament globe like the H4, some tricky mods are required.

The aim is to have the left projector on as lo beam with a cutoff, then the r/h projector will come on with hi beam with no cutoff. Seeing as they are independantly adjustable, I should be able to set them up perfectly.

So, I'll need to split the headlight & install a lo beam cutoff on the l/h projector, but that'll have to wait until the HID's show up... 15-45 days from china.

So now I play the waiting game!

Anyone got any info of the rubber covers for the rear of the FZR headlight?
