Home made decals

Post by lenny » Tue Jul 24, 2012 12:53 am

One of my other interests is building scale radio controlled aircraft. A common technique is making custom decals to suit. Inkjet printable waterslide decal paper is available at many large office or art supply supply outlets or via internet. Its pretty cheap. Design your own decal on your computer, print it out, give it a coat of clear and apply. Only limited by your imagination and easy peasy (but read how to apply properly) Very professional result.

already occurs over here.... bit like vehicle 'wrapping'.

There is a company reasonably local to me who will coat your bike with a water immersed slide on carbon look graphic and then clearcoat afterwards.
I have seen some Aprilia panels done and it was very realistic.
It's also a method used by some 'airbrush artists' to do smaller details or portraits and then build the paint up to level around it before clearcoat

... when you say "give it a coat of clear" , do you mean aerosol clear laquer sprayed onto the artwork before you cut it out to apply to the bike ... or apply the decal to the bike and THEN give it a coat of clear laquer ??
Rubber side down, Red side up is my preferred riding style.
