Hey ho, each to their own.
The TRX swingarm flexes like crazy. The YZF arm cleans this up a lot.

Intra,
if i thought i felt the TRX swinger "flexing" i would be checking my swinger axle, wheel axle, both lots of bearings and tyre pressure cos what you are feeling is not the swinger flexing, its something else.
The swinger doesnt flex with up to 100 bhp through it.

I can assure anyone, you will not flex the box section swingarm even if you tune your TRX to put 120 bhp through to the rear wheel. And you`ll struggle to get an output that high anyway without some seriously expensive modifications.
I suspect there may well have been another issue making itself felt Intra as has been stated already.

(I can reply to this thread on Dawns lap top, my works pc restrictions do my feckin head in)

hi folks
so, using sturdy swing arms on the modern bikes is only fashion?

http://img3.annuncicdn.it/36/56/3656892 ... 03_big.jpg

I'm a little concerned... Since 70's racing oriented bikes use reinforced or strong swing arms, so now i'm asking why the engineers didn't use something lighter.
I haven't still finished my project so i cannot say anything, but i think that -at least- using the larger R1 spindle on the yzf750 swingarm will add more stiffness to my rear end.

(please correct me if I make some grammatical error)

Have a look at the HP that modern day bikes are punching out at the back wheel since the 70`s

Mine flexes up and down all the time. :krusty: :krusty: :P :P

Seriously though, I have never felt my swing arm flex, no matter how hard I cornered and I'm also a heavy bugger. The YZF swing arm I have ready for the bike is purely for looks.
It must be true, I read it on the internet.

Yes, i know something concerning the increase of power in the last 40 years, but i'm only asking why the racing or sport bikes, even the old ones, have always strong rear ends and reinforced swing arms.

Everything has moved on since the seventies, back then bracing was common on steel frames but now rigidity is cast or even forged into frames or their component parts.
Go take a look at frames from builders like Rickman, Seeley or Egli from the seventies, you`ll see large bore or even oval tubing used, occasional box sections etc but not too many castings or forgings.
Nowadays the hard work that goes into bringing a frame from a computer screen to reality is carried out by machining centres and robotic welders.
The TRX swingarm through design takes torsional forces in excess of those you`ll experience, remember the swingarm pivots through a large and very rigid casting, the arm itself being not just plain old alloy box section but extruded alloy box section (drawn through dies) with a `form` that also increases it`s rigidity.
I can accept something `other` than the swingarm giving an impression of flexing at the rear but it`ll be more likely to be a tyre, spindle tightness or bearing issue not the swingarm flexing.

There have been some cracked swingarms, If I were to get a feeling it was flexing a thorough inspection would be in order....

I can confirm it was a bit tricky to shorten the R1 swinger. I shortened it 75mm to
be used on my Thunderace. :D
