are TRXs a 'he', 'she' or an 'it'

hi guys.

diving into the social and philosophical end of the pool here.

we always hear vehicles (and other objects like musical instruments) referred to as a gender, don't we?

boats (ahem, vessels) are always female.

cars are either/or depending on the styling and the driver (female drivers often impose male gender on their vehicles, i've noticed). obviously the more chunky and aggressive the styling, the more supposedly "masculine" the car is. not entirely sure i agree with this conclusion, but that's a majoritative opinion so i'll cite it here.


but the point of all this - is your TRX a male or female entity? do you warm 'her' up before a ride, or do you give 'him' a regular oil change? (euphamism completely intended)

let's hear your opinions on this, i'm interested in knowing people's ideas. especially as we mostly own the same bike, it'd be interesting to see how we interpret the design differently into a gender specific form.

[edit; my own personal slant on this is that i don't really assign gender to objects. yeah, i'm probably the odd one out in this regard, but all of my gender-based interests lie with living things rather than appliances and vehicles]

I don't ride males as a personal rule - not that it is a problem for others - so would prefer it if my TRX was female.

Then I can sound totally misogynsitic when talking about giving her a good thrashing etc.

I am sure Mince will have a politically correct, right on view on this

Personally think anyone who calls a bike either 'he' or 'she' needs their bumps reading.

You only have to polish the tank and feel the curves to know that she's DEFINITELY female

My TRX is my bike, My pick -up is my truck, My wife's Mini Cooper is the car although she occasionally calls it Mary. As a rule of thumb if its got genetals it gets a name if not its an object. Naming innanimate objects seems to be a mostly female pastime i think.

Way I was brought up was all vehicles were "female" but the only one that had a name was a works pickup called Betsy, Me and Betsy went for a roll around in a field one day ......wasnt the best day of my life ..........Betsy looked like she had been through a hedge backwards, ..which indeed she had.... and upsidedown

mine can often be called a mix of "She" and "it"

Tinkered with some valve gaps the other day, it seems they do run better with a little space between the cam and valve.
Putting it all back together and get to the bit with installing the tensioner. said-
"IF I ever come into enough money to support such a quest, I shall hunt down the f#%&@en son-of-a-useless-moth*)/#@ and torture him to near death" for putting THAT type of tensioner in THAT position on THIS particular type of motorcycle.
I still have the wounds.

Helps to drill a little dimple in the end (Dont break thru!) so a helper can push down on it, compressing the spring, with a looooooong phillips head from the passenger seat area.
Meanwhile you can start the thread whilst they push.

anyone noticing a problem trying to post to this forum? posts aren't seeming to 'stick' for me.

anyway;

i'm not one for gender/personality assignment and stuff (although i love the idea of cars having 'faces') so i agree with some of you guys here.

however, this is a time honoured tradition since the birth of transport. Men (and it has indeed been predominantly men, for obvious historical/social reasons that we won't go into) have been assigning female identities to their vehicles since there were vehicles, as far as we know or guess.

i like to think that this habit is an homage to their much loved respective wives/significant others who were left at home while the men we are referring to were out engineering/inventing/building etc.


(i'd like to steer clear of any sexism here, just pointing out the fact that inventing/engineering has historically been a male dominated area)
