New needles and jets, now 400+ to a tank

Post by brenyw » Thu Feb 16, 2012 11:52 am

I used to get max 325 km to reserve, but it was getting worse, ended up at 290 to reserve so I renewed the needles and emulsion tubes (got from Kedo).
Standard sizes, now I'm getting over 400km to reserve, over 440km to a tank (freeway runnning, speed range 60-120km/h).
30% improvement, wasn't expecting that!!! Bike was 175000km on original needles/jets.

Previously I was trying to work out how to squeeze another litre of fuel on board so i'd only need to fill up once a week....

first tank after the new needles/jets got to 420km before reserve, thought i must've topped up the tank without resetting the odometer, after 3 more tanks it was confirmed, 400+.

Needles/emulsion tubes come out at approx $60aud for the full set + postage ~$30aud, I was quoted $240 set at the local shop...

Motor does feel a little lean at light throttle but no different when give it the stick. Maybe the loud exhaust causes this??

I just replaced the chain/sprockets (54000km) but these were really knackered, every 2nd tooth broken off the drive sprocket.(16t)

FFS

Can I suggest that you up your reviews of consumables. You are a very lucky boy that the chain hasn't jumped or snapped - fubaring your engine cases and possibly your legs

 X 2, Albeit with broken engine cases, and the oil leak that goes with it, you wont be riding it whilst your plated ankle heals!!!

I am lucky to get 240km from a full tank to reserve, $90 for Needles/emulsion tubes sounds great. What is the order number on the kedo site?
the photo I looked at on the kedo site looks like a set of needles and jets from a different carby.

Looks like part number 28958 needle jet (emulsion tube) sold singly. 12.50 Euro`s

And part number 28983 jet needle (needle) sold singly. 12.90 Euro`s

I must admit Kedo`s website isn`t the easiest to navigate, I get a yearly catalogue posted out to me, most of it in a mix of English and German which is marginally easier to understand.

I got needles and tubes from Kedo 2 weeks ago, and they are now in the bike and working great

The jet number is as per Mincehead's post but the needle is different.

I had a look back at the invoice in my e-mail, parts odered were as follows:

2 x 28768 Needle Jet (Stock Size), 1 Piece (requi
1 x 2012* KEDO Katalog 2012 (472 pages)

Payment via: credit card
Total amount: EUR 68,68

Weird, because in their website listing the emulsion tube / needle jet is definately listed as:

Item 28958: Needle Jet (Genuine Size), 1 Piece
Application: TDM850'96-'98, TRX850

Jet needle and needle jet are wearout parts ! If these are worn, it will cause the engine a loss of performance by raised enrichment of mixture, and will raise fuel consumption
Due to construction especially all 750/850-Models are affected by premature wearout and begin to jerk
It is always necessary to exchange jet needle and needle jet in pairs. Price per unit

Hmmm:

Related items, Items of this catalog page

28768 Needle Jet (Stock Size), 1 Piece (required 2 times) 12.50 €
XTZ750,TDM850-'95
28094 Jet Needle (Standard, German Model), 1 Piece 12.90 €
TDM850-'95
28983 Jet Needle, 1 Piece 12.90 €
TRX850,TDM850'96-'98
27572 Jet Needle (OEM), 1 Piece 57.15 €
TDM850-'95 German Version

Taken direct from their web site, 28768 is listed for the XTZ750 and TDM850 to 1995.

Edit:

I think the ZTZ, TDM and TRX share the same carburettors, so I guess those emulsion tubes are identical too but Kedo give them different part numbers to suit their methods of gathering sales information etc.
