I chucked a sickie today and got the keihins successfully installed on the bike. Good lord almighty...what a difference!
Thanks to the peeps who encouraged me to persevere past a) my first unsuccessful install attempt (I just bolted them on without checking settings...didn't work out, put on the Mikunis) and b) unsuccessful mechanic install attempt ($900 later...mikunis with dynojet, keihins in a box).
All I did was get everything in spec and install...ramair and stacks. Needs some dialling in off idle and the tacho does the dance every 10 mins or so but otherwise awesome...broke traction in 3rd after getting a partial refund from the mechanic

All sounds good!
If your FCRs havent got TPS connection, you can bypass it by doing the TPS modification. This will stop the tacho dancing.
If you have a tps connection, sounds like it just needs some adjusting.

FCRs rock!

I don't have the right words to describe how utterly crap the standard ones are in comparison and how asthmatic they make the engine

Just because you're breathing, it doesn't mean you're alive.

True Alex, it ain't the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog etc
That said...I am genuinely amazed at the power hike....night and day against stock...and that rattle and hum/induction transition sequence is pure rock and roll

the difference is we just don't have to try as hard

you may just have to use the gearbox a little more

Great news mate, glad you've got it sorted!
What was the problem in the end?

I know what you mean! I'm running mine with the airbox at the moment while I decide on what cobination of velocity stacks and filter I'm going to use. But I did run it with the velocity stacks (and mesh filters) in the shed when I first installed the FCR's and I'm addicted to the sound! I didn't think it was possible for a beast to roar, whistle and hiss all at the same time

Black '99: Race Tech fork springs/emulators, R6 Shock, FCR41's, Modified airbox with K&N filter, Omrae carbon mufflers, R1 brakes, Toby steering damper, and;
Black '01: unmodified, 100% original, and;
'95 Import: Track Bike - too much to list

It would appear the settings weren't per spec from the factory and the mechanic didn't check them like I asked. Actually, I'm being kind to the mechanic...all I found were the floats were 8mm instead of 9mm...I set both sides to 9mm and reset what the mechanic did (fuel 4 turns out instead of 1 in an attempt to get it to idle). The problem appears to be the mechanic.
