Re: The TRX900 Project kicks off
Cheers matey, wish I could say I did it!
Your spare frame came in very handy for the mock up. I will have to get it back to you somehow.
Not done anything else on it yet, I am currently taking the engine out of my VW transporter, and its become a bit of a mission!

Re: The TRX900 Project kicks off
at long last I have finally managed to get a couple of hours on the trx project.
Cleared a nice space in the garage and started to have a look at seeing if this 900 engine would actually fit - pictures:

So its in, albeit on one engine mount! I have to sort out the bottom mounting bracket, drill the front mount out, and mount the fuel sender in the tank.
I have a few clearance problems but nothing major:

Thats the side stand fouling part of the engine casing.
hopefully more progress tomorrow

Re: The TRX900 Project kicks off
Mine is almost done but the fekker German who sold the bits told me to use 520 chain for clearence issues and sent me a special made front sprocket wich where....525. So now i have a new expensive super heavy duty 520 chain wich don´t fitcoxylaad wrote:at long last I have finally managed to get a couple of hours on the trx project.

But again, he told me YZF swinger fit 100% without a dished sprocket....and he sold TRX springs to a mate wich where something else.
Keep away from that MGscandalo dude!!
He also forgot to mention that the 900 lump don´t fit in straight so my mech had to do some work on the lathe, some cables where to short etc. etc.
Going to try my 525 chain and old rear sprock and see if we can get it up on the dyno for setup...

Re: The TRX900 Project kicks off
I've not really had a look at the chain yet, will have a look tomorrow.
so what other bits have you had machined to get the engine in then?
I am not too bothered about cables etc, its more the fabrication aspects i am interested in.
I have the TDM 900 rear wheel, I am wondering if I use that combination will line up ok. we will see.

Re: The TRX900 Project kicks off
Hardest part if i´ve understood it correctly was the lower mount in the cradle...it had to be machined to fit....coxylaad wrote:I've not really had a look at the chain yet, will have a look tomorrow.

Re: The TRX900 Project kicks off
hmmm I wouldn't have really thought that was a problem. its a separate bracket on the 900, which bolts inbetween the block and cradle, so why not just make a new one out of bits of steel?

Because i´ve told the mechanic what i´ve been told....and when that´s not correct everyone has their own idea on what´s easiest/best...?coxylaad wrote:hmmm I wouldn't have really thought that was a problem. its a separate bracket on the 900, which bolts inbetween the block and cradle, so why not just make a new one out of bits of steel?

Re: The TRX900 Project kicks off
got another hour on it today:

Thunderace yokes in place, I have to chop off the steering lock bracket though.

some sort of speedo correction device?

New mount is a perfect fit.
tomorrow if I am not too hung over I am going to pull out the old wiring loom and start to fit the fuel injection loom.
I thought my front fairing was a fibre glass aftermarket one, but I am starting to think its an original one, just been repaired after some incident. A lot of it is ABS plastic.

Re: The TRX900 Project kicks off

there's going to be a lot chopped off that frame la!
I am trying to keep the seat a little higher as my left knee does not like being in a heavily bent position for extended periods.
all starting to come together now. I am half way through tapping the existing lug on the head, should be completed tomorrow. Bracket on the under side completed tomorrow, and then fit that 900 oil tank up.

Re: The TRX900 Project kicks off
that bottom bracket was not difficult at all killerwhale. And the 900 fuel tank will go, just needs a little teasing in

Re: The TRX900 Project kicks off
yes I did
I must have been thinking about the outstanding job I have fitting the fuel pump into the trx tank!
