The thing to remember with TIG is that everything has to be clean. Keep the tip sharp and clean. If it sticks to the work, stop and clean the tip. Keep everything clean. Did I mention the 'clean' thing?coxylaad wrote:gotcha. so yers i have one, and no i have not used it berfore, but i have mig welded before

Re: Big bore headers available soon
Kayla has, or maybe still is, doing a welding course at college I believe.
I used to weld all the time with TIG plants, mostly stainless and utilising the pulse settings as the stainless bellows and cups were very fine, less than 0.25 of a mm thick! (they were used in fuel flow meters for type 22 Royal Navy frigates).
I`ve made loads of special bike parts over the years but sadly I`ll be a tad rusty with a plant as it`s been 9 years plus since I last used one.
Although saying that, just like riding a bike you never forget how to do it.

No, I did a MIG course at Gateshead college last year and when we'd completed the test pieces we could have a go at another type of welding and I asked to be shown how to do TIG. I really enjoyed learning how to do it and I could stick a couple of pieces of thin mild steel together- I know the theory but need more practice!coxylaad wrote:have you done much tig work before kayla?

Well I know with an afternoons practice or so I could be back in `reasonable ` TIG welding shape again, and with all new and degreased materals it would be a nice clean process.

Go go go! I'd buy one - I have sold my fixer upper TRX to a mechanic who worked on Alan Cathcart's TRX way back when. I know he'd want one.
Projection Racing 2-1 with Akropovic hex carbon can, Keihin FCRs @ 150 main, R6 shock conversion, 520 chain conversion, Ignitech ignition, Li-po battery. Further weight reduction & front suspension in progress ....

Hello,
If the project will start, I will be interested in 2-1-2.
Cheers

Re: Big bore headers available soon
ok then the general consensus seems to be 2-1-2
Id imagined that this would be the most popular and will allow folks to fit their existing silencers or have the option of buying a full quill system
Im of down there tomorrow to ask a few questions and may even leave the bike there for a test fitting
Chris

I´d prefer a 2-1 with a 60mm end which mean you can fit any good 1000cc off of ebay you want....must be best budget!?zednine wrote:ok then the general consensus seems to be 2-1-2

Re: Big bore headers available soon
ok, I think I can get access to my mates pipe bending machine. No pictures of it but its programmable, hydraulic and about 10 meters long!
If that cant do it then I give up!
The only slight issue I have is that I will be making a set up for me first if I do it, and I have a TDM 900 lump in my TRX, so may be a little different.
Might need a set of trx headers to work with for getting the bends and stuff.
I think its doable, just got to see how long it takes us to do a set.

Re: Big bore headers available soon
I have been thinking about this again, if we could get someone to make 45mm header pipes , we could use two types of collectors 1, "y" shaped collector (two 45mm inlets one 60mm outlet ) for a 2 in 1 system and then 1 "X" shaped collector (two 45mm inlets two 51mm outlets ) for 2 in 2 pipes , using exhaust springs to hold it all together. would mean everyones happy.

not sure how we would go about making Y shaped collectors, they would probablies have to be bought.

If you were to use a larger dia SSteel pipe, Squash it so it is oval you ould then fabricate a collector box with two inlets and on or two outlets
