Just a quick note to say hi

After a recent license damaging episode with the law, my Hayabusa was finally waved off to spend some quality time with its new owner. And so my next project begins.

I'll be perusing this forum for a fair bit over the coming months to poach ideas, join in the fun and to get advice. OK, OK I'll admit its not exactly a TRX, but what I'm going to build is what some of you would like Yamaha to do.

A few months ago I purchased the TRX850 engine out of this below with a view to sticking it in a Super Tenere chassis. I've finally found the right bike to sling the engine into and I'll be collecting it this weekend.

Maybe someone here recognises this bike?

My aim is simple but some would say a little mad in that I wish to build a relatively nimble trail bike in Supermoto form, capable of doing around 150mph. The engine is in waiting, the upside down WP front forks and matching 17" front wheel are glinting in the corner of the garage along with a fat 5" rear and oooh so sticky tyres. So now I'm looking forward to mating it all together, splicing the electrics and figuring out how best to exploit the 270 deg offset cranks' Ducati-esque roar by way of some sexy straight through pipes.

So all the techies out there, be warned, I'm going to be asking loads of questions about carbs and TPS's and Zorsts and tuning mods etc (Yeah I will use the search button first) :roll:

Boy this bikes gonna be fun, I cant wait to get started on it.

The rest of that bike is scattered across a few owners on this site including me (the seat unit forms part of my track bodywork). The chap who sold the motor to you is Trixynut on here.

Engine bolts straight in - it's actually something I have considered myself but have always though that the ST is not the best looking of bikes but your supermoto idea sits well with me. Lots of photos please.

It was indeed Trixynut, and I did promise him at the time that I'd keep him informed as to the progress of the project.

Hi Mate!! Nice to hear from you.

Glad you're getting round to sorting out the monster trailie at long last! The supermoto idea sounds interesting.

As Phuk sez, you should find all the info in here for cracking that 100bhp if that's still the plan.

100 ponies from a TRX motor ain't easy (or cheap for that matter!!!!)

Nice to catch up with you again :) That broken exhaust stud was a bitch to get out btw, ended up having to drill it out by hand :roll:

After owning a Busa for a couple of years, whether I am making 85hp or 100hp its all rather immaterial, its the way it puts the power down that's important.

I've always had a passion for V twin dirt bikes so I'm rather hoping this 'virtual V' configuration doesn't disappoint. One things for sure, these engines certainly sound the part.

Soooo... 1st on the shopping list after tomorrow is a two into two exhaust. (I'm guessing they will be a straight fit and clear the shock and swing arm) There's a couple of downpipes on evil bay cheap right now so I just need some loud cans and I guess link pipes. Anyone got anything kicking about they want to part with or can recommend a cheap source?

Hey, phuk, the XTZ can be made to look pretty sexy, even with a standard motor...

But thats not a super tenere....

I think thats a 660 or something. The shape and feel is similar to where I am hoping to go but I want wire wheels and would like to finish the bike off in Yamaha Dakar colours.

So... a mixture between this

Yep and its only a XTZ750 with paint and knoblies..... most people cant see beyond the awful Yamaha standard paint scheme when in reality there's a really nice looking bike just itching to get out.
