Project is looking good. I'd love to get my hands on a set of those fairings and take a mould.

Marty, that would be a little unfair on Ian from Twig. Honestly mate, its not that dear for the quality and work the guy has put into it. Look him up he is a very helpfull guy, and lets face it all the hard shitty work has already been done by him.

After scoring a near new FJ Yammy shockie off ebay, it arrived today, so just now I ripped off the old piece of shit and installed this little ripper, It is also adjustable and fitted in well, length is near identical.

Yeh I see where you are coming from! On the flip side he prolly copied someone elses design in the making of his. If you apply that logic no one would ever make or sell race glass unless it was OEM.

there was a fairing just like his style for sale on e bay the other day for $70.. Expensive kit . If you shop around a little I'm sure you could save 100's

For the forum members can you list the FJ model that shock is from please, can never have too many options available when it comes to doing sensible mods.

MH, The guy just advertised it as a Yamaha FJ shock mate, there was no year or model, and when I asked him he told me he did not know as he was selling it for a mate. It took me two days to get a reply when I asked him for a centre to centre measurement. At a educated guess and looking at other FJ series images on google I would take a stab at it being around a 2003-2005 FJ1300..

Here is a pic of a ohlins replacement I googled for a 2003 FJ1300.

If the `travel` is 4.9" it could well be off an FJ1300:

How long's the shock please, and is it adjustable for preload, compression and rebound, or just preload and rebound? It looks to be around 320mm long from the pic.

The FJ shock measures at 345mm. It has adjustable preload and rebound damping.
Today I striped down the front shocks and cleaned them up. I am waiting for the new seals to arrive I decided to hit the lower legs on the linisher belt and give the top cap adjusters a bit of a polish to keep in line with the cafe racer look. I stripped and cleaned all the brake calipers then shot a bit of heat paint over them to pretty them up along with the lower tripe clamp.

The picture must be taken at an odd angle-

cos the FJ(R?) shock looks a little shorter

I was looking for an alternative shock for an SZR.

Yeh it is 10mm shorter than the shock that came off my TRX.

I know the measurement from the TRX manual. But does anyone ,, or can anyone simply tell me the amount/quantity oil oil in each fork leg as a good starting point?? I drained about 450ml out of each leg.

Not a lot more to strip off it now, I am looking at cutting out two filler panels to cover the battery box, after I make those I will lift the fame off and send it off to the powder coaters
