Well as you know I am very new to this forum and to be honest I am really a Duke man, however I was fighting off the urge to build a cafe style bike and found this `95 TRX import donor bike not running and for sale. I bought the bike, and got it running, then off to RWC and single seat rego compliance. That done, I started by ordering some of my parts from Ian at Twig. This guy is a fast worker and sells quality products, also he is only a phone call for any help.

If it does not bore the shit outta you guys I will keep a pic library on this thread and see how I go. I must say there are some great bikes on here and the bar is set pretty high, but from what I have researched there are no hard and fast rules to Cafe racers, and make the thing as individual as you want seems to be the agenda. With a bit of fun thrown in.

My first task is to make a set of universal Chinese rearsets to fit,, they dont seem to be far off the mark, so a bit of rooting around, 6 or so stubbies and these suckers should fit!

Yep, why pay 300 odd quid for `brand name` rear sets when CNC`ed Chinese variants will do fine and dandy. The quality of materials will be the same and the machining looks pretty good too.
I like the way the rear master cylinder mounts on those, very neat.

Can we get more info on the rearsets please? Is it a no brainer plug&play fot? Purchased on ebay or elsewhere?

The rearsets cost GBP 50 off ebay. item # 370408465795. The sets I bought are to fit another make but after looking at the sizing I realised that if I elongated one mounting hole very slightly I could make them work, and I did.

Thanks for the rear set tip its a great idea I hate my stsd set up. Can you also measure the fork diameter? I wanted to know if the white frame Japanese market TRX's have 43mm forks I read this. If so the clamps of an import would open up a heap of cartridge type right way up forks to fit to the TRX.

Who is this Twig you speak of? Do they have a website thingy? I googled it but nuthing come up.
I see you have removed the pipes from the head. This usually seems to be a problem? what did you do to get them off?.

I think they're all 41mm- certainly my red-framed 4NX had 41mm forks as standard.

Yeh, Marty me old mate, my forks are 41. But I am always a few mill short:)
Well today my polished Rad arrived (before you ask, its off ebay and it fits a Suzuki LTZ400 whatever the Phuk they are) it cost me $160 Aussie landed and it is not the cheapest but it gave me the look I wanted and it is incredibly close fit to the orig one that was crash damaged and been repaired on my bike.


With the rearsets, I opted to fit the original shift leaver and polish it up a bit, this works better than the one supplied with the set.
You can see in the pic, the china jobs sit back and well up from the standard set up.

funny thing is, the guy alwys wears a helmet and you never get to see his face

I got the header pipes undone by applying a shit load of heat using a hand gas torch. then the suckers were like putty in my hands!!

I even found a use for a old Ducati Gear shift rod I had lying around. I dont think I will bother with the fan as this is a slightly bigger rad anyway.So that's it,,Rad mounted in less than three stubbies of beer!!

I have a feeling the LTZ400 is a Suzuki quad bike, that rad looks very nice too fits nice and snugly in there.

Today's little project was to piss off the ugly, unimaginative, dipshit spot that Yamaha has placed the choke operation and to cut off the bracket to tidy things up. Quite simple really.
Ugly choke..


Removed and screwed to carby bracket.


Frame bracket marked for execution!!
