crazy TRX TT trip luggage plan******DONE WITH PICS******

Post by stevepeanut » Mon May 23, 2011 7:43 pm

right, I might need my head looking at here, but just bought a set of 3 hard luggage cases and a frame off ebay, its for a cbr1000, you'll find it if you type in Item number: 120725523673 into ebay

so I am going to collect it this week as soon as possible, then armed with a mig welder I have this weekend to make it fit the TRX for next weeks trip to the TT

wish me luck :?

So if I see a TRX with a set of hard luggage on the IOM then I'll know it's you! Good luck!

This was a bit of a crazy idea, which came into my head when we bought a full luggage kit for mrs peanuts fazer, I put the luggage frame from the fazer over the back of the TRX and thought, this isnt too far away from fitting. So my idea was, buy the cheapest set of full luggage I could get and make it fit the TRX, and its done, and very easily too.

The luggage was from an old cbr 1000. I put the frame over the rear end and found that the 2 side bars were millmeters away from the exhaust hangers. I bolted these to the hangers, and bolted another 2 u brackets into the side of the rear seat. I then got another big U bracket and welded that in the middle so all of the weight rests on the pillion seat. Over all it took less than a day and was pretty easy, but it does rule out carrying a pillion and access to the storage under the seat.

yeah it is bloody ugly, the missus fazer looks quite nice with its luggage as its the same colour as the bike and I havent attacked it with my mig :D . But functional was the plan, and its going to be a lot nicer to ride to the TT with hard luggage, did it last year on the bandit with soft luggage and everything was moving around and I had to stop at one point to re-tie it all on after it started to hang off one side of the bike.

But whats on my mind is wether to unbolt the frame when I get there, or just leave it on for the week.

Man, soft luggage effects the handling of a TRX because the pillion seat is so high. I cant begin to imagine how your hard luggage will effect it when its fully loaded. If it were me I would take it easy on the run over to the isle and then REMOVE it.

it was very heavy, slow speed control took so much concentration, especially getting the bike up the ramp and parked on the boat.

5am on the last morning the bike toppled over while we were loading it, it hit me in the head, knocked my missus over, and then knocked her fazer over too. Lucky it was in a wet field so there was no damage at all

It did its job and got my stuff to the TT, so thats it done with and I'll probs sell it on again now I am back
