Re: r1 swingarm into a trx
I seriously hope my poor joke about finding the Ebay listing amusing (it was!) didn't fuel any of the negative posts on here today. Hope you can both sort your issues outside the forum.
Back on topic tho - the R1 swingarm does NOT slot straight in with ref to Thunderace item. Front pivot point is different width & requires spacers, etc (can't recall diameters?) Remember the R1 swinger was longer for a very good reason. The pivot point (axle of arm if you like?) was designed to sit deeper into the rear engine mount & hence suspension mounts, etc are also a similar distance rearward to pick up what is otherwise a standard suspension arrangement- i.e: distance from pivot to mount is longer due to area that passes into rear of engine? I'm not saying it can't be done, but, if you want a 'drag' swingarm you'll save yourself a heap of time ringing someone like JMC or similar to give you what you actually need - a longer swingarm for straight line stability without messing with suspension offsets (but your rex will steer like a Harley) Unless you're a very good fabricator with Tig experience it will probably be cheaper as well.
Hope this makes sense & helps?

without being rude im gonna have a look and give it a go cos id like it to have r1 front and rear ends
but your experience has been pondered and listened to thoroughly ( and put doubts in my mind )
im a welder by trade and have experience iin a heap of tigging so can always modify
spacers dont bother me cos i can use a lathe too
will a yzf750 swinger fit and whats the diference also can i use an r1 wheel on the rear with the yzf 7fiddy swinger ( as i already have a set )
to nug800 ( the previous poster about doing the same mod ) if you send me an email addy by pm i can talk you through every stage as i do it
thanks peepz
ps you comment didnt bother me but im movin on with the whole saga now but thanks for the thought

Re: r1 swingarm into a trx
YZF 750 swingarm is indeed much easier, straight swap - from memory you just swap the pivot caps/spacers from one arm to the other?

Re: r1 swingarm into a trx
Sorry - not sure about R1 wheel in 750 swingarm but doubt there'd be enough clearance (but like i said not sure?)
I have a Thunderace item which has allowed me to use the R1 Galespeed wheel

Re: r1 swingarm into a trx
Have the YZF750SP swinger as per TRXOTM picture, you´d need an inward offset sprocket at 3mm-ish, 180 tyre on the 5,5 inch is tight as it is but i really don´t think a 190 one would bring anything but bling. Otherwise bolt on.biker-nut-1986 wrote:NWS870R wrote:YZF 750 swingarm is indeed much easier, straight swap - from memory you just swap the pivot caps/spacers from one arm to the other?

Re: r1 swingarm into a trx
Tony, if you do choose the YZF swingarm route and need a rear wheel I have one.
It`s in YZF 750 pukey purple but straight, good bearings and I have brand new (packeted) cush drive rubbers and a serviceable sprocket on the carrier too.It is also the `rebated` type so to get the offset all you`ll need to do is flip it over.
NWS870R;
The Galespeeds, are they magnesium or forged alloy?
Good to know the Thunderace swingarm allows the fitment of an R1 wheel, cheers for that.

Mmmmm...depends on what other chassis & or engine mods have been made. I'd agree that a standard TRX will never need any more than a 160 section - the further away from stock you go the more you'll demand from your tyres. Even changing between manufacturers can show massive differences in turn in rate, etc so it's a case of choosing what suits your riding style, application (track or road?) & geometry set up of bike if modified?

Forged alloy - i would never even consider magnesium for road use
Biker nut - if i were you i'd say go with Killerwhales advice & go for the 750SP set up, it's a pretty hassle free modification & there's loads of info on here if you get stuck with owt

Which in turn implies an R1 wheel can be used in a YZF750 arm as the rear wheels are the same on the Thunderace and YZFMincehead wrote:Good to know the Thunderace swingarm allows the fitment of an R1 wheel, cheers for that.

Re: r1 swingarm into a trx
I completely agree with you that different manufacturers and specific tyres have different profiles and applications but that's completely different to whether a bike needs a bigger section rear tyre.NWS870R wrote:phuk72 wrote:well saidKillerwhale wrote:

A 160 is more than enough - even for a tuned TRX. The advantages of a 180 section on a TRX are negated by a slower turn in IMHO.

Re: r1 swingarm into a trx
To be honest, the only reason I'm using a Thunderace rear end with a 180 in my bike is because I couldn't find a sensibly priced standard swingarm to be able to go back to the 160. I will concede that I think it does look quite cool with the fat rwu forks and fat swingarm though
I am that shallow

Sorry - i've completely mislead you all, my front Galespeed is R1 but the rear is actually a Fazer thou wheel. I feel a right prat now!!
This is the problem when you try and do everything in one go - you start to forget what's been done and where!
Apologies for the duff info all
