Replacement Fork Springs

BBB the words "dual sport" on that page are nothing to do with the technical data next to it. It's a link showing some of the other bikes they cater for. Racing, dual sport, cruiser, super motard, touring etc.
Looks like there are 3 options for the trx, 70,80 or 85. Page in your link is for the 70's but states they should only be 510mm long ?

That was straightforward!!!
took about half an hour to do both sides including childminding duty using a head stand certainly helped. Ohlins it seems do know what they are doing

Removed the spacer and one washer:



Springs look very well made and have considerably more coils per inch than standard. Not very clear but gives a good idea:



Locating the rebound adjuster was a bit fiddly but not as bad as I had anticipated. Haven't had the opportunity for a test ride yet, set the preload at four rings out on a 0.8kg spring.

As has been said before - the preload adjustment has nothing to do with the spring rate - it sets up the amount of sag i.e. ride height.

What is the suggested oil height with Ohlins springs?

I've just pulled my forks apart to find that I have Ohlins springs and remember reading somewhere that the oil height is different - despite my best efforts in searching I can't seem to find the thread/post where I read it!

Does olins have some sort of post or e mail adress where you can request this information or was it someone personal preference or set up.. I contacted (thro e mail)Staintune when enquiring bout jetting on there mufflers as such...

In my experience, oil level isn't all that important (in comparison with oil weight, spring rate and pre-load). I'd recommend setting it as Mr Yamaha recommends, and if you find it to be to compliant in the end of the dampingstroke, top it up. The stiffer springs will reduce the risk of bottoming out, and oil level basically only affects the last part of the damping motion. With original spongy springs it's a different beer...

emailed Harris about this as they are the recommended contacts in the UK. got a reply saying we have received the email but never heard anything back. Probably a bit busy building those moto2 frames to arsed with my concerns.

as I'm now running fzr forks (with the ohlins in them) i just googled/guessed the oil height.
Planning to swap the FZR fork bottoms onto the trx forks (if possible) as i am not convinced the fzr's damping is all that great.

Been reading a bit on the forum about replacement fork springs, trying to understand what I should go for to replace my standard springs... but I still have some questions, very daft ones too i'm sure but my tech knowledge is still fairly when it comes to two wheels!

I'm not a racer, do a mix of town and country side/motorway riding and would like to have some improved cornering feel and keep some decent ride comfort. Was looking at some Ohlins springs and was wondering about two things:

1. I weigh a good 12 stones, probably 13 in full gear and have seen that this deternimes the .kg setting I should go for... here's the dumb question... can this be set once springs are fitted or do I have to purchase the correct springs for my weight? Also, what rate should I go for?

2. How much mm of fork should be sticking out of the top yoke? Seems a few here are at 25/30mm.

Apologies for the dumbness here and thanks in advance for the advice.

Do you have a european or import model, as the Japanese springs are way too soft!
Believe the springs are fitted/sprung for your weight before re-assembly.
25mm is the correct height showing above, however you can drop them lower, or as in my case put spacers under the bars to lift them to the top of the forks.
Thundercat forks fit and have more adjustment (not sure about speedo connection though, Kayla can tell you more on that conversion).

I have a european spec trx. I'm keen to drop the front end a bit so how low could I potentially go? 30/35mm of fork showing above the top yoke?

If I read correctly, springs should be setup for my weight at by my mechanics then?!

You BUY springs that are suitable for your weight, they can't be adjusted or set up to suit.

Anyway, good shop will recommend a rate for you if you give them some info re weight & riding style.

Not for me no I get a completely blank screen and at the bottom in the frame it say's done
