Questions questions

Post by masterbill » Thu Feb 04, 2010 8:26 pm

Hello,

I've introduced myself and now I feel bold enough to ask a few newbie questions :)

I have done a bit of searching for various things but can't find everything

I'm fitting a Dynajet kit with K&N filter and Iridium plugs - the fuel height according to haynes is 15.8 to 16.8 - is this still correct for the dynajet kit :?: Nothing in the dynajet info to say that you have to alter this or check it.

Carb balancing -
Was going to use this - figure it should be ok - any thoughts, experiences :?:

I've used one of these things on the chopping board 8) where the feck did you dig that up from! - i thought they were virtually extinct!

Difficulty is using it at low revs on a single cylinder - loads of fluctuations :?
1996 TRX 850, blue, Ohlins 46HRCLS, Race Tech Gold Valves, 0.90 springs, Venom pipes, R6 brakes............
1974 Yamaha RD250A, Candy Blue
1998 Yamaha SZR660, blue of course
1967 Yamaha TD1C 250, Blue and white

Hello,
I've used one of these things on the chopping board where the feck did you dig that up from! - i thought they were virtually extinct!
I had two of them, sold one to a guy on the RD forum, kinda figured that they would be alright on CV carbs - used to use them on Strombergs and SU's.

Used it alot on the 500 - works a treat and after a while fiddling about you get the hang of it

As to where I got them , I used to teach Engineering at the local college and I freed them from the Motor vechile section - They fetch a fair few bob on the Fleabay. :D

hopefully this weekend I'll sort out the fuel height and get the bike going again

Hello,

Well I got her going and I must admit that the fuel height setting is bl**dy hard to do - I'm pretty pleased with the end result., but I might make something up at work to see If I can do a more precise job.

Anyway I came to start her up and at first she wouldn't go :!:

Turned over ok and before long it seemed that she was flooding- checked the plugs for a spark all ok (that's a pig of a job as well)

Fiddled about and then I looked in the manual and I decided to reset the throttle postion sensor- got the hang of that ok and low and behold after I reset it she fired up straight away :D

Right so now to check the carb balance with super tool - no 2 cyl was nice and steady but No 1 was jumping about all -couldn't get a steady reading

Had a look and realised that the no2 cyl pipe was going to the fuel tap and no 1 was just floating about in the air. So I swapped them around and I could balance them =D>

I'm going to borrow some vacuum guages of a mate and see how good or bad I've set it up.

That was the good part 8) when I went to tighten the drain screw on no2 cyl she wouldn't seal #-o - so it looks like I will have to take the carbs off again and sort that out :!:

One step foward two back

By the way she seemed to run ok - but I didn't try her with the air filter on.

Cheers

Hello,

Sorry If I confused you :? - I know what I mean

Anyway - the trouble I had was not with the float heights it was checking the Fuel height/ Level. Page 196 of the manual from the download section on here.

Cheers Bill

Ps . thanks for pointing out the factory pro site.
