Indicator Mods

Post by BBB » Wed Oct 28, 2009 8:25 pm

hello!
Looking at swapping the giant oem indicators for something a little smaller.
Really like the look of the triumph street triple / yamah R125 style.

What sort have people got on their TRX's?

Cheers

Hey,

I've got these from Motozoom.nl (local nationale online bike gear shop):

Image

Positive:
- small and subtle
- it's halogeen, so very bright orange when turned on
- smoke glass
- discrete when turned off

Negative:
- changing the bulb

Here a picture of them on my REX :D

:D Theres pics of mine on here somewhere, flush at the front, and minis at the back. Just unplug and fit new ones. You may need to make plates for the front ones though as the holes in the fairing are quite large.

bought a pair of the motrax led tips,
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ ... de=MTXLAT1,
but having just connected them up to a 12v source they are going back to be swapped for a pair of halogen bulb mini spears. The led ones are very dim even in my gloomy utility room, they would be pretty much invisible in daylight and at £30 a pair I want something people can see.

Devlin, are those spacers for the front indicators the Yamaha ones?

GBP30 a pair!?!? I got 4 pairs for AU$65...very close to the GBP30. Havn't fitted them yet, but if they are as you say, I may also have to get others :(
Understeer - when you hit the fence with the front of the bike.
Oversteer - when you hit the fence with the rear of the bike.
Horsepower - how fast you hit the fence.
Torque - how far you take the fence with you.

I mounted mini LED indicators. Looks nice but I had to buy a new indicator-unit to get a proper blinking frequency.

BBB,

From memory they were universal but fit nicely. I haven't committed to cutting down the stalks on the front ones yet to make the back side more compact. I'll probably do it at the time I do the rear tail light surround.

took the led ones back and swapped them for a set of mini-spears. Also got the adaptor plates for the fairing holes. If I get the chance to fit them will post some pics.

Just junked the standard indicators, and fitted mini-ones from Motrax (£10 a pair from DK).
Amber lenses all round - & they show up just as well as the massive originals (which I sold to a grateful eBayer).
On the front, I fitted flush fitting fairing items; on the back small lamps on mini stalks.
The fairing ones look the business; just what Yamaha should have fitted in the first place!
The "fitting kit" was crap; so I had to drill & use pop-rivets.

The new rear lamps make the standard number plate seem too big; does anyone know what is the minimum UK legal size for a number plate?
And does anyone know what smaller ones you can get away with if UK cops stop you?

Here you go Arrivisto:

http://www.theplatemarket.com/display_o ... umbers.php

Piece of ferkin nonsense if you ask me though, I mean how many idiots do you see with all kinds of odd type print characters, spacing etc to make up names on cars?
Then there`s colours too, I`ve seen all kinds from honeycomb backings to ghosted images and even the old black and whites, it`s a minefield of meaningless shite!
The old bill need to get their priorities straight in the UK and catch friggin kiddy fiddlers, big time drug runners and those with illegal weapons before they waste time targeting motorcyclist for small or `illegal` plates.
It`s all about enforcement and fines, nothing more.
Oooooo I feel much better for that.

:? The plate is supposed to be 9" X 7", and the letters

DVLA Rules for Motorcycle and Tricycle number plates
All motorcycles and tricycles must display a number plate at the rear of the vehicle. Motorcycles and tricycles registered before 1st September 2001 may display a number plate at the front of the vehicle but are not required to.

If you have a two or three wheeled motorcycle or tricycle that has a body type of a four-wheeled vehicle, you MUST display a number plate at the front and back of the vehicle.

Motorcycles registered on or after 1st September 2001 must display a two-line number plate. Motorcycles registered before 1st September 2001 may display a three-line number plate.
One-line number plates are illegal, regardless of the date of registration.

Here are the character sizes:

Character Height 64 mm
Character Width (except the figure 1 or letter I) 44 mm
Character stroke 10 mm
Space between characters 10 mm
Space between groups 30 mm
Top, bottom, and side margins (minimum) 11 mm
Space between vertical lines 13 mm

Hope that helps ( get one made up and then cut off the spare bit at the top, bottom, and side)

Thanks, Mincehead & slow codger.
I have had a legal plate made up in "portrait" not "landscape", i.e. "9" tall and 7" wide. This has 3 rows of letters or numerals (P at the top). This works better, as the smaller rear indicators are not masked at all anymore; and the new plate extends down further to the little reflector. The plate is now no wider than the mudguard, so hopefully won't get a coating of chain grease!

A local bike shop refused to make it up for me; which was a bit rich, given that recently they were only too happy to make highly illegal ones! Instead, I got a car place to do the job. Also, I'm glad not to be advertising some Midlands bike shop who supplied the bike originally in 1997 and who stuck their logo all over the original plate.
