further research begs the question where did you short the blue/wht to ground as it could bring the starter circuit cut off relay into play if you did the short at the solenoid.

Hi

I used the back of theBlue/White wire on the connector block on the Solenoid then straight to the Negative terminal and it started.

i have checked the starter switch at the block connector under the tank by using a continuity check and it seems to be OK.

Thanks for all the help, ia am out for the weekend so i will be back on Wednesday, before i start night shift.

I think your best bet is to put a voltmeter on the blue and white wire, with the ignition switched on and you should have 12v (approx) on it. This is coming through the coil of the solenoid. Follow this wire checking voltage on it up to the starter button, if there is 12v there, it should disappear when you press start. If it doesn't then the button's not grounding the voltage and the solenoid will not pull in. Turn off the ignition and do a continuity check from the start button to ground. There seems little or no doubt that your solenoid is ok.

Glyn..

ps I had a G2CSR (a 1965 one) when they were at the peak of their development

FIXED IT. =D> It turned out to be the Blue/White wire from the Starter relay had broken off at the connector block. I must have disturbed it when i removed the tank.

Thanks again for all the help and advice.

Ahaaaa,i suspected as much, mine was very corroded and was hanging on by it`s teeth when I discovered it.
I replaced a section of the wire and fixed on a new terminal, taping the loom back up after wards, you would never know by looking at it now.I`m glad you`ve sorted it.
