I have rebuilt my new (2nd hand) FZR forks using hyperpro progressive springs, fresh 10w oil so I'm guessing my 17K mile rear shock will be the weakest link now. I'm guessing as I'm yet to ride the bike with the new forks fitted. Just want it all peachy ready for my trip to the Nurburgring in August.

standard rear shock rebuild
I have searched but there seems to be a mixed opinion regards the quality of the standard TRX rear shock. I am considering the purchase of a 2nd hand unit & having it rebuilt. What's the going rate & is it worth it ?

Re: standard rear shock rebuild
Standard shock is perfectly ok for normal road use imho, apart from being a bit hard as standard. After 17k or so miles it will be past it best though. A rebuild with a spring weight to suit you weight (with your riding gear on) should bring it back to new, probably better. Maxton do it but are always busy, or Kais, or loads of others. Hagon do the cheapest replacement item, but theres loads of others like hyperpro etc.
If you go down the rebuild route, I was thinking of maybe getting mine done, so let me know if you do: may get a cheaper price for two!!

I had mine done by Falcon in Wareham - re-oil, re-seal, re-gas, re-assembly all in for £65.00
If you need new damper rods they can make new if required, but mine was fine after a re-build.

Re: standard rear shock rebuild
Thanks both I think I will buy a 2nd hand one & start searching. £65 sounds fair to me.
Only problem is I want the spring powder coated blue. I seem to remember removing my old RZ250 spring from the shock no bother but i've noticed a few folks on here don't advise diy spring removal. I change springs on car shocks fairly regularly. Is it the same principle, compress spring, remove spring mount/perch/holder release tension, remove spring from shock ? Not gonna start another thread don't worry.

Yep,if you`re familier with the process it`s really not difficult.
