Glove recommendations?

Post by idl1975 » Thu Apr 30, 2009 2:00 pm

Can anyone recommend me a decent set of leather gloves for under £100 that won't come apart immediately, can stand up reasonably well to daily dry(ish) use, have properly protected stitching (nothing exposed in impact areas - been there, done that a while back!) and have a secure wrist closure (i.e. the velcro doesn't come undone every time you ride)? Preferably long in the cuff.

Have been having glove woe recently. Everything seems to split at a seam, dry up and shrivel, come loose or wear through at the fingers (!). Hopefully someone has found some decent gloves and can tell me where to find them! [-o< [-o< [-o<

Just bought a set of these for this season:

Standing up well to general abuse and if they are anything like the rest of the HG kit I've used and abused I imagine I'll get a at least a couple of seasons out of them.....and they are good value too in the current credit crunchness!

Thanks!

How tight do they go at the wrist?

Tight enough and theres a decent amount of velcro to keep it tight too. I must admit I tend to use supermoto style gloves as my wrist bones are particularly knobbly and racing style long cuff gloves rub my outer wrist bone and irritate it/me! These HG gloves fit nicely over my 1 piece leathers and HG 2-peice but also go underneath the sleeve on my textile jacket too - best of all worlds! They are longer in the cuff than a supermoto glove but becuase they don't have the armour of racing gloves in this area they meet my comfort requirements if you see what I mean?

I'd suggest nipping to your nearest HG and trying a set for fit/feel. They also do a slightly more race styled version thats slightly dearer at £45 :

or a full on race set at £80 :

One good thing about my local HG is that they replace anything thats faulty without quibble if you have probs.

Hope this helps....and no I'm not on commission - just like recommending good quality, sensibly priced kit!

Dubbing on your leather gloves, keeps them supple and also makes them shower proof. Check the stitching as well decent thread and not too near the edge.

Yeah, have read that you should not use leather conditioner though, on the grounds that it can damage the stitching. Thing is I actually DID use it on my Alpinestars track gloves, and they STILL went solid. Mind you, you sweat a lot in track gloves - or at least I do!

I ended up buying the HG racy type gloves for £45 as no-one else had specific suggestions. Looked better for me than the cheaper ones as I need long cuffs and lots of wrist security

They look like the old 'Twin' gloves they did a few years ago. I had a pair and they were really good :D
