the demand valve is jammed open you will need to overhaul the tap or maybe buy a new one ,, strip it off the tank and carefully pull it to bits you will find a spring inside that pushes onto the valve clean it all up and inspect for ware it could just be some crap in there or it could be worn out :D

well as you know the vacuum pipe that goes to the tap opens the valve once the engine is running so with the tap now open all the time you are now relying on the floats in the carbs to stop the flow of fuel , if they leak then it could flood the engine with petrol, not good ,mine did this and with a simple strip and clean all is ok , but i don't think you can buy parts for the tap so it may need replacing :D :D

You can buy parts! It's not genuine Yamaha, but something like this:

Don't know what its called at your place, but a kit like the picture costs €27 over here.

Or this:

The pic is from a TDM partlist, but you get the idea. costs are €12,50.

Bit of a late reply, but I had the same problem. Funnily enough, just by taking the tap apart for a look-see (and a bit of a wipe) and putting it back together seemed to solve the problem. Worth a try before forking out for a new one. Better to do when you're low on fuel too so you don't have waste time pouring it out into a fuel can.

It's a good idea to replace the tap to tank o-ring (the rectangular bar-shaped thingy) if you remove the tap, regardless of what else you replace. Apologies if it's stating the obvious, but if the o-ring is original, it's probably dead from fuel, heat, vibration and not much good at sealing anything. It would suck to fix the tap and then have it leak past the o-ring.

+1 for "inspection before replacement".

I had a problem with mine, turned on its side to stop it leaking, light squirt with an airgun fixed it. Its like it had an airlock or something.. didnt fix it perfectly, still had a drop every few seconds, but once i pulled it off / looked / put it back on, works fine now.

and the "remove, look at, reinstall" method is called "man-fix". for some reason, just by staring parts down, men are able to fix things without buying new parts.. So anyone one without a dangly bit between their legs, yours screwed.

Is this like when my boyfriend says we need new batteries for the remote then takes the old ones out and puts then back in after having warmed them up in his hands? The remote does seem to work again though...
