Don´t get me wrong here....i piss my pants when flat out on my trix.
What i meant was that an IL4@150hp usually has the character of skim milk...while ours are rich cream.
110-120 HP and a good 6-speed box and i would have had 2 trx:s!!

...by the way, everyone who tried the new R1 praise the engine....ours are just half and has been around for a very long time.
Badly off topic now....

real men ride twins
if i want more power get an SP2 or a Duc
TRX850 1997 - sunny day twisty toy
TDM900 2003 - commuting tool
TDM850 mk1 - scratching & touring
Z750 hardtail - project
gone but not forgotten : - XTZ750, GS500, GS125

Yer, that's why I've stuck with the TRX. The '954 was a bit pointless on the road for similar reasons. You only needed 1st gear and the first 5mm of throttle travel. But each to his own, I guess.

I have always loved my trx's. Probably why I have owned two. But I find I am doing a lot more riding with friends out on country runs these days. through the twisty bits, no worries in being on the pace, but when we get straight sections I turn into a bit of a back marker. Realistically once the speed gets over 200 clicks, the trx is not the best choice. Maybe I need to look at this turbo kit. Has anybody supercharged one? I would think it would be a lot simpler and cheaper.

whooa, in Sweden you can get a really good turbo for 500£....a supercharger is at least 2000£
Many dudes with a MIG at home and access to material does a total turbo conversion for 750-1000£, that´s without IC but i REALLY don´t think a trix would need that! :) You can also run with E85 and then you don´t have to lower compression.

You also has to take it out on the flywheel on the fan wich means some more fabrication. Don´t get me wrong, a blower would be nice as f**k but a turbo is nice to the wallet!

WTF? Do you seriously want a bike that is quick at above 200 clicks? How often do you ride at that speed?

If that's really what you want, junk the TRX and buy a Mille / SP1 / 996 etc. Or an R1.

Turbos and (especially) SCs are big money

My insurance for TRX is 380£ fully insured a year......an R1 from -98 is 1450£ ONLY traffic!
....don´t know about UK but in Sweden if you put a turbo on it and change the fairings it goes by "amateur rebuild" and insurance is even less.
But if i win the lottery i WILL have the 2009 R1! ....the sound....

Oooooo! That does sound good. Wow! I didn't know an IL4 could sound that nice. Shame about the liabilities of owning one. Cost, insurance, power and only 12 points on your license.

On the first part of the topic i'd go supercharge over turbo. But I'd also consider building a custom bike with a VFR750 of VFR1000 motor in it as well. I know, blasphemy!

Many say get an R1 and be done with it. I really dont want to part with my rex. I happen to like being able to go for a ride and not see the same bike as mine for many months at a time! That and the fact that it does everything except the high speed stuff so well. Maybe forced induction is the answer. A lot cheaper than getting a new bike.

P.s.
Just for the overseas guys, second hand bikes in Australia, particualy over here in the west, are REALLY expensive when compared to other markets. Something like an early RSV, SP-2 etc, even old shabby ones, still start from 15K. Similar year R1, gsxR k1 etc are around 11-12K. I really have no interest in owning a four. And you can forget about dukes ($$$$$$$).

Isn't Rossi's M1 a V4 or 5?

No. Rossi has an inline four with uneven firing order.
