Turbo TRX

Post by Triton » Wed Feb 11, 2009 11:41 pm

Rapid Bikes sent me these pix taken by pro-photog Lou Martin... way cool. Apparently 160hp at 14psi boost, very smooth and very torquey. Standard internals so "only" a few grand.

Jesus you would never keep the front wheel down !
So standard TRX compression is maintained ? I would be very interested in any additional info you have on this bike & work required for the turbo conversion. 8)

Turbos are shit and downright dangerous on a bike

Superchargers - now that's a different issue

And presumably by "only a few grand" you mean in actual parts? The fabrication etc would take the cost to (at a guess) £5k?

They do, it's simple physics.

I know they are a lot better now in terms of lag but still not best suited to motorbikes with constant throttle corners and fine throttle adjustment.

if he wants to bring it over and change my mind

Ooh, would love to see some videos of that in action! I wonder if there's any cornering clearance issues with that air filter there?

...for which you could buy a 160hp GSX-R-1000 K5 and keep the 50+mpg TRX for pottering around on.

Yes, but my bike only has 79bhp! Anyway, if you stick a turbo on it at 14 psi of boost, I doubt it feels much like a TRX any more. I could be wrong though, I haven't ridden many 160hp bikes.

well i have,,, and they are not for the faint hearted or inexperienced , and in my opinion that sort of power on the road is a waste of time and money in fact anything over 120bhp in my view is mad , my R1 has about 150 bhp and if i am honest its very rare the throttle is pinned and when on the odd occasion it is, i can feel my licence ticking like a time bomb ,, perhaps iam just getting old,,,, and sick of hospital food............ :D :D
TRX850 ,The thinking mans R1
