My bike makes me smile

Post by Kayla » Sun Aug 03, 2008 9:07 am

I got my TRX last Tuesday and I love it to bits. There are some little things that need doing but generally it's a fab bike!

I took it out yesterday for a quick blast around me and my boyfriend's little test circuit and it just made me grin from ear to ear :D I love the noise when you whack the throttle open from low down, and the sound on the overrun is heaven

I've had two strokes, thumpers, IL4s, but this is my first (four stroke) twin. It's not ridiculously powerful and it's overweight compared with other bikes I've had, but it's incredibly rideable and rock solid when you're pushing it.

Things to do include;

higher bars (those clip-ons kill my back and wrists)
raise the rear end a little
sort the front forks out as they're a little soft
replace the 2-2 with a 2-1 system. Mmm... titanium Akrapovic...
get as much weight off it as I can.
oh, and paint the wheels white with red rim stripes :D

:D Try rear sets, being older than some with a knackered back, I used to alter a bikes set up, but this time I seem to fit it better, I've also highered the clip on bars to the top of the yokes, and put spacers under the allen bolts. And yes white wheels look good, go with the white frame on mine.

Mine's an import white on red with a black engine. The wheels are a dull gunmetal colour which would look sooooo much better white. There's no panic though, it'll get done over the winter along with other tidying bits.

Wouldn't rearsets put even more weight on my wrists though? Plus, I feel more confident with wider, higher bars and they lend the bike (and rider!) a certain 'attitude' that clip-ons don't. Kind of a 'don't-you-dare-cut-across-my-path-as-I'm-filtering-or-I'll-stick-my-boot-in-your-door-or-knock-your-mirror-off' air. I have to admit I'm a sucker for a tastefully done (if there is such a thing) streetfighter. What can I say? I'm just a white trash kind o' girl :D

:D Mines an old import red on white, black engine. Oh and white wheel at the rear, and red and white at the front.

Yes, it was Kookimonsta's bike. I collected it last Tuesday and haven't stopped grinning yet :D

Hi Kayla,

glad to hear that the TRX feels good and makes you smile. Personally I do like the riding position, between tour and sport, not too much 'on the nose' but also not too high as on a tour bike. It will be a personal choice to put a bar on a REX, surely it will ride easier in corners and will give your back less tension.

I guess your length is also an issue with the riding position. Other rearsets (adjustable) can provide a better riding position with less 'stress' on some bodyparts. Although, most rearsets are higher so normally a more racy position also for more clearence.

N E way, have fun and good luck on tuning your own REX :D

Ps. any pictures yet? I'll search for kookimonsters pictures here anyway...

Here's a pic that Kookimonsta sent me before I bought it. I took some pics of my own but I lost the wire that connects my phone to my computer :(

I think higher bars will work well. I'm 5'8" so don't really have a problem getting both feet flat on the floor, but I prefer to be sat more upright and I like higher bars for filtering and slow speed traffic, plus I feel more confident when I'm moving the bike around than with clip-ons.

If your looking at changing the position of the footrests, speak to nigel at http://www.nkracing.co.uk/. He made me some jack up plates with 9 point adjustment. Cost about £95 and are great. The standard foot rests just bolt straigh to it. You just need to get him to make up another gear link arm and your well away.
You dont have to have that many adjustments, i'm sure if you had less then it would be cheaper as it would take him less time to make it.

Nice! Brembo calipers just like mine. :D

You should see me grinning on mine.... I have one of only a few in South Africa. (Apparently there are more, but never seen another for myself.) So every where I go, know one has ever seen a TRX. Usually get responses, like...that is the most beautiful bike I ever seen...That engine sounds sweet.... LOL
I love it!
