Hi all,
I have the bits and bobs I need to do a superbike bar conversion on my bike and I fancy going the whole way and doing away with the fairing. I got a generic two-light enduro headlight arrangement for £3 (really!) and want to fit a Vapor dash thingy in place of the standard clocks.
Now, as my bike is an import and has an M-max box plugged into the loom instead of the speedo, I'm guessing I'm ok to run without the standard speedo and leave the magic box plugged in- pas de problem. My main concern is the tacho- if I run the bike without the tacho connected will it go into 'limp home mode' or will it just run as normal?
Thanks for your patience/understanding/condescending remarks/suggestions to 'do a search' (done it, didn't find owt)

is that box there to remove the speed cut out??????
why dont you just unplug the gauges and give it a go. if it still works then you are fine.
im sure there is a way around it. how do the guys who run r1 front ends and fit new clocks that take the feed from magnets on the crank do it. there are also bound to be race bikes out there with no tach.
there has to be a simple solution.

Ah, no, it's not the speedo I'm bothered about as the box has taken care of the restriction. All that's going into the speedo is the drive cable so I can run the the bike without it. I want to know how to get around any problems that may arise from running the bike with the tacho disconnected. I suppose I should just try it and see what happens.

Ta

I'll give it a whirl later on. I just thought with it being a JDM effort it'd have some kind of weird electronics that prevented the fitment of non-standard valve caps or something.

I'm sure the speed limiter thingy on mine plugged into the speedo! Do a search as I did post previously on that.

Hi Dave,
The derestrictor gubbins plugs into the loom in place of the speedo, effectively fooling the CDI. The only thing plugged into the speedo was the drive cable and the bulb. Anyway, it's a moot point now as my bike is gaugeless.

The brakes are fine and to be honest there was nothing really 'wrong' with them, I just wanted a bit more feel from the lever to match the power. They'll do until I get the bike off the road for the winter

Have you got the adjustable span lever?
and also steel brake hoses?

Yes on both counts. It probably doesn't help that it's a stretch to the lever even with it set on the smallest span.
