very urgent coil needed, what other coils will fit???

Post by brockzila » Sun Sep 07, 2008 12:13 pm

I have been preping for a month long trip to germany, then my coil drops out of service and im now thinking that i cant go on the bike. I can still get there but i will have to take the BUS.

I am desperate to get a coil. can any one point me in the direction of someone that may be able to help me, or tel me of another coil off another bike that will fit.

Would it not be the same as a TDM XTZ one? I know the firing order is different, but the ignition timing would be controlled by a CDi etc not the coil itself.

At a push Brock I'd try ANY 12v coil you can get your hands on that you could fit into the space, preferably one that would normally be driven by a CDI ignition, (if you can, check the resistance of the primary windings just in case it's vastly different but personally I wouldn't have thought it'd make any odds...) Just a 'get you moving' emergency measure.. YMMV of course, but that's what I'd try if I was up against the wall...

Brock, I think I still have a new coil from my KTM Duke that I never fitted. Someone who knows electrics will have to tell you if this will work though. Obviously it's a 12v coil, other than that I have no idea. I have a 6v one from the TY, but I don't think that will help. :D

Can your Yamaha dealer not supply one quick enough? :?

Thank you guys. phuk has sorted me out and i should be getting it tomorrow.

at least i hope it will sort it. i had been able to ride it as long as i kept the revs up. but today on my way home from work it just died. i managed to push it from the a40 to camden, but was to stuffed to get it home from there. will swap the coils tomorrow and see what happens.

as for using a car coil. i really dont want to try it. im pretty sure that they work differently and it will do damage to other components in the system. it has to do with the wire leads and carbon core leads and the resistances involved. can some one explain this????
