trx engine dimentions

Post by kookimonsta » Sat Aug 30, 2008 12:37 am

im having some silly thoughts running through my head, i have an rgv250 frame sitting in my garage which i want to get back on the road (as it has a good plate on it) if someone has a trx engine out of the bike any chance they could get some measurments? height, width of barels gearbox. possibly some pictures?

i know the trx engine is quite a compact engine and they shoehorn in rg5 engines into them so i recon theres a chance it could work? what do you recon?

Would be a pretty good engine to go in. A large single from KTM, Husky etc would go better though (IMHO) and be lighter. Something I've wanted to try for a long time and Rapid magazine are doing one at the moment

Unlikely. I had similar thoughts about a TZR250 3XV chassis a few years ago.... No way would it go... it was way too long! [-(

Devlin.. the Rapid project is a RS250 "Priller frame with a SXV 550 V-twin motor not an F'in piece of shite single-cylinder KTM. :P

Shame, to be honest i was thinking crf450 engine but they go for silly money. (rg500 engine money)

Just been offered some modified rg400 crankcases so i might go down the rg/rgv cylinder route.

We'll see. gotta get the lc build first!

yeah I knew that but reckon a single would be a fun little and lightweight option.

SXV550 motor weighs 31 kg complete and at around 70 hp it's a "little. lightweight AND POWERFUL" thing. :D

How about a szr660 motor, there seems to quite a bit of tuning potential available for those engines, or any single from KTM.

Even the factory KTM supermoto engines in the WSMC are woefully down on power compared to Van Den Bosch's SXV. Viva la "twin-cylinder" Revolution! (This is a two cylinder motorcycle site isn't it?)

I don't know about an RGV frame, but I've heard of a couple of TRX-engined FZR400 3TJs. That's a good idea :D
