Hello, just signed up to the forum
hope someone can help me with this:
i went to buy a TRX 850, cosmetically the bike was in a nice clean condition, but something bothered me, at the join between the head and the cylinder there was a thin line of discolouration all the way around the joint, but only on the left cylinder, i could not work out what this was i.e. oil, grease, or a disintegrating gasket.
So i revved the bike and at mid range there was a dark colouration from the exhaust not a lot, just a thin viel of dark grey.
from the exhaust.
can anyone shed some light as to what this may be.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Hello..........
did you check the coolant for oil?
my guess is take the radiator cap off and you'll see a milky covering on the underside of the cap
if so walk away, its fecked

Re: Hello..........
If the smoke was from both exhausts, that may be perfectly normal. Most (many?) TRXs burn oil. Mine has done about 25,000 miles so far, and I've seen similar SMALL amounts of in the past. It still hasn't blown up, so that in and of itself is probably nothing to worry about.
Not clear what the discolouration could be, except to say the previous advice is worth following. Could just be the head came off for valve clearances and wasn't torqued down correctly - at a guess. But why take the chance? TRXs are easy to find used, so go for another one.
