Superbike Handlebars

Post by Dash » Tue Jul 29, 2008 1:57 pm

I want to fit some SB handlebars on my t rex in the near future. I`ve been digging around this site for some info but I couldn`t find a thread that had an answer to my questions.

what I`m wondering is this: is it possible to replace the original top triple clamp with the top triple clamp from a TDM? that way I won`t have to resort to a very expensive ABM kit. my TRX has the standard front forks, so are there any triple clamps with SB handlebar risers that can be bolted on just like that?
What`s that coming over the hill? Is it a T-ReX, is it a T-ReX?

no. The later TDM uses 43mm forks vs the TRX 41mm. Early TDM with 41mm forks has different offset to TRX so the yoke will not fit.

this is why ABM and LSL can charge so much for their kits.

balls.

That would mean that there is no escape from buying a VERY overpriced conversion kit #-o

:D Know any body with welding gear? turn upside down fill in the web and then drill to put posts in. Its cheaper than a billet job.

I was thinking about the possibility of using early Fazer 600 yokes. They're 41mm but I believe the offset is 35mm (5mm more than the TRX) which would make the steering a little 'twitchier'. Anyway, for the cost of a set off ebay it's worth a try.

edit- Nigel at NK Racing can probably weld up a standard yoke and drill it to suit. www.nkracing.co.uk I think.

I`d like to keep the original yoke in one piece in case I want to change back to clip ons or when I sell the TRX. (if ever  )

so there will be no drilling holes in the yoke :P If all else fails and there are no alternatives I`ll guess I`ll go with the German conversion kit... [-(

I am sure you could source another TRX yoke if you want to go that route and keep your original.

ABM and LSL yokes do come up occasionally on eBay, but you mght be waiting a while. New they are a bit on the expensive side but you soon forget that.

I used a conversion kit, and personally am of the view that you could do the job cheaper if you just bought the yoke and parts you need separately. If cost is an issue it's worth considering. You could cost it up. All you need is yoke, bars, brake cables, a few nuts and bolts, and possibly a clutch cable (which isn't in the kits anyway - some might argue that you don't need it anyway).

I ordered the kit from Germany yesterday. set me back €260 but then at least I know it all fits well and is in perfect shape. that`s worth something as well, right? (cognitieve dissonantie reductie)

now to score a street bar and perhaps a diversion 600 clutch cable. I`ll just have to fiddle with the cables and see what I need.
then find an old skool round headlight and make the whole thing a retro look naked. (I might get shot for saying this here  )
