The literal translation of in lieu is instead of, yes.

I think this is more of a 'tide you over' gesture, but you might wanna check it out.

A little late, but I hope you are already getting better Youngy.
I know how sad it is to see your own bike like this :|
I wish you good luck with all this.

The assessor just called. He agrees it's terminal. He's a biker andunderstands the work and money that went into the bike. So good so far.

Bike will be back home in 20 minutes or so. He will call me next week to agree a value for the payment for the bike.

Your solicitor will know better than me, but unless he or she says otherwise, I hope you're giving the assessor a list of exactly what it will all cost to replicate and asking them for a cheque in that amount! If they're admitting liability, they shouldn't have any problem with that...

Yeah the big probem there is that only your own insurer can write off your vehicle. A third party's insurer will say they won't dispose of the vehicle, which means that they will deduct from the value of the vehicle a value for the salvage. If I give them an itemised list they can then deduct huge chunks based on that.

We'll see what gets offered. Had an interesting chat with the assessor this morning. I think he nearly fell over when I told him what the bike owed me.
