Fuel cap rubber seal

Post by davesta » Tue Jun 03, 2008 10:31 am

Hey guys, i just noticed today the rubber seal on my fuel cap is quite hard (almost like plastic). Is this a standard thing or has the rubber perished over the last 10 years? I'm guessing it has, but thought i'd check before i bother getting a new one sent in, thanks a lot everyone :D

Had reason to pull mine off the other day, and it was definitely floppy, not hard.

Haha, i should have seen that coming :) , yeah looks like i need a new one, i doubt it seals very well against water coming in. I guess the petrol and petrol fumes perish the rubber pretty quickly. On the plus side the bike runs a bit better and goes a bit harder after new emulsion tubes and having the float heights set correctly (they were at about 11mm :| ) And i actually have to use choke to start it from cold, amazing....

Yeah 14mm, that site (and the tubes) saved my bacon, i would have had no idea otherwise. And that business about checking the fuel height with clear tubing just looked crazy. Look forward to taking it for a long run with my dad and seeing if it uses less fuel now then his vstrom 1000 (not that its that important, that makes me sound like an accountant!)

that's fairly respectable, i brimmed mine on saturday and put it onto reserve this morning - must have done around 160 miles. not bad from 14.5L.

105 miles to nearly empty, emulsion tubes or commuting? Better get on that factory pro website!
