Any ideas on how to remove the two roundy-headed bolts underneath the ignition barrel to free it from the top yoke?

you have to drill them - they're shear bolts.
I might have a top yoke with the switch already removed if it's any help to you.

Ta, but it's the ignition barrel I want, so I can put it in the YZF top yoke.
If I drill off the top of the bolt, Can I then slip off the barrel, and I'll be left with two threaded bolt stubs sticking out of the yoke?

I welded a nut on the top of mine then turned them out with a spanner.

No you can turn out the bolt stubs as well! The only thing is it will be a little difficult if they were placed with loctite, but do-able.

i drilled two small holes in mine then used the circlip pliers to get them out mine were not that tight

Are you sure it'll fit? I'm pretty sure it doesn't....

Drill a small pilot hole and then open up to 6.5mm or so... The head should come away and leave the shank behind.

looking good ,,did you service the forks before you fitted them ?? if they are R1 ,,10w oil and 80mm air gap

Cheers Steve, but they're YZF750, and yep, I serviced them, with some difficulty before a link to the Haynes manual online was posted up: see other thread!

Yeah, I gotta do this soon. The key and barrel are getting very notchy and hard to turn. Gonna try the cheap option and get some keys cut first but if that dont solve it, I'll have to get a new barrel and keys. Finding it very hard to unlock it off the steering lock. What fool put the connector underneath the tank, though

PS could you similar bolts back in there but with, say torx or allen heads instead of shear bolts?

It'd be a bit too easy to hotwire if it was anywhere easy to get at dontchathink?
