Yeah, I don't think there's a consensus on oil, except that odds are your bike will burn it. :) I think just use factory recommended grades of bike-specific oil with the best API (or whatever) rating you can find. There's nothing that consistently breaks on these bikes as far as I can tell, except those bloody emulsion tubes.

I don't know what kind of bike you had last, but be prepared for the slower-than-average steering when you take it on the track. Corner entry above 70mph is not as easy as on "modern" sportsbikes!
I had a 1992 Suzuki GSXR 750M for a good 5 years before the TRX; I only tracked her once though. So far I'm actually finding the TRX is generally sharper than the Gixer; the Gixer tended to feel quite heavy. I definately prefer the more relaxed nature of the Rex, as the Gixer demanded to be caned all the time, resulting in me rarely taking her out through fear of either losing my licence or having a big wipe out...

If you're out for a trackday, post the details up in the Trackday/Ride reports section and you'll probably get some unwanted company!! :D

Hi Peter, welcome to the invigorating world of the mighty TRX.

OK, the temp thing... here in not so sunny Aus it takes about three laps of Eastern Creek race track to get the needle of the bottom stop. However on a 35+ degree day it does get up to around 80 or so in traffic.

Oil - use the semi synths at 10W40 as phuk suggested. Some here are claiming oil usage, I have owned two TRXs and mine don't use any oil at all so be vigilant. The oil level in the window only works after a good 15 minutes of running followed by a 5 minute rest.

Slow steering is easy to fix. Put shorter dog bones in and jack up the preload, then drop the forks by 5mm. Good luck and what a bargain you've got! :D

:D Peter green, didnt you play guitar in Fleetwood mac?

Ok back on topic, read topics concerning dropping forks and using YZF dogbones for quicker turning, Mines dead old and doesnt use any oil, and its supposed to have plasticine tappets, but they seem to work as well. Hopefully will see you at the East of England, Cambs ride out when we get the date sorted.

Thanks for all the advice on the temperature guage. Having let her tick over for around 15 minutes the needle finally sprang to life and was just about reading 60 degrees. So, as you all suspected! - glad I didn't end up taking her to a garage to find that out!

You'll be pleased to know that Bart Simpson and some of the other tasteful stickerage has now been removed...
