YZF750swing, I need some measurements!
I am about to fit a pair of Marvic wheels. Bought them 2nd hand, and the previous owner is not sure what bike they've been on before. I got a complete set of bearings, distances and so on. Thing is, my bike's previous previous previous owner, has put the YZF750 swing on it, together with a 5,5 wheel. Since I haven't done it myself, I am unsure how the measurements are supposed to be. I have checked my bike's chain with a laser gizmo, and it seems to be straight, which indicates the wheel is sitting correctly in the swing. But, if I measure the distance from the swing to the widest part of the rim, I get a difference between left and right hand side? I fear that either the swing is not symmetrical (YZF750 in general?), or the distances/washers I currently have are not correct. (I've always had the feeling I have to lean a bit to the right when I let go of the steering, to compensate.)
So, could You please measure the distance from swing to wheel on both sides, and let me know? Also, if You have the measurements for the "correct" distances left and right hand side, please provide those as well!

Re: YZF750swing, I need some measurements!
I own a YZF750, fitted with Marvic rims, but I haven't it at home!
It's parked on the other side of the country.
So I can give you some measurements, but that would take some time (at least a week).
Anyway, it could well be not symmetrical, but this should be a matter of mm's, not cm's.
Hope it helps.

Re: YZF750swing, I need some measurements!
Thanks, that would be very appreciated! Slim chance, but maybe we even have the same wheels? If so, then I might even get the right distances from You? But I would still be interested in the measurements with a "standard" rim, just to get my baseline, so if there's anyone else that can give me these measurements, pretty please? The differnce between left and right is only something like 3-4 mms if memory serves me right.
Tarwe:
These are the parts I got with my rims. I don't have a picture of the rims yet, but do You "recognize" the parts? (Maybe You have some pics?) I haven't tested the front wheel so far, but it looks to be a straight fit. The rear wheel is a different story. I have opted for making a new axle, 20 mm instead of the 28(?) that is the original YZF size. I suspect someone before me have made up some adapters for the 20 mm spindle...
The bits and pieces I got with the wheels are in the picture They are lined up as I guess they will be placed from left to right. The middlepiece that goes between the wheel bearings, protrudes some mm's to the right, nothing towards the left. Same with Yours?
The bearing package that should sit in the sprocket carrier, is made up of three aluminium pieces and one bearing. This is my biggest concern, as this is the piece that will decide the distance from the swing to the sprocket. BTW, does my sprocket carrier look similar to Your? What sprocket fits to this? I have planned to have some sprockets made, but if You know where to get ready ones, it would help a lot. How flush is the sprocket carrier with the rim? If it is completely flush, what parts are making contact, the bearings+distances, or the carrier+wheel? What is the "free" play when the wheel nut still isn't tightened?

Thanks in advance!
Cheers

Re: YZF750swing, I need some measurements!
Just a quick reply from work.
I never had the rims apart in bits like you
, so I don't know what's hidden between the bearings.
The wheels were made in 1993 for the YZF750 and fitted just right in. So old type, with 3 spokes.
My sprocket carrier looks different then yours.
Here are two pics from my topic

I'll spend the whole weekend on my YZF on track
so I will get back to you next week.

Re: YZF750swing, I need some measurements!
Thanks, I'll patiently wait for Your measurements.
My wheels are looking very similar, three-spoke design as well, definitely from the early days... My carrier might have been for another bike from the beginning, but this won't stop me. I'll put some ppictures in here for comparison later this week.
Good luck on the track!

Re: YZF750swing, I need some measurements!
Managed to take some pics last night. Turns out the front wasn't that easy, the bearings I got with the wheels are 20 mm, but all the distance pieces etc that came with the wheels are 17 mm, same as the TRX.
A lot of turning will be needed...

Ohno, I forgot to measure and now the bike is parked on the other side of the country... again.
Your wheels look totally different then mine, for what it's worth, though.

Re: YZF750swing, I need some measurements!
Thanks for telling me. I am meeting a guy this weekend that I hope can help me out. What's the difference between Your rims and mine? I thought there were only the 3 and th 5 spoke rims, and that they looked very much the same?

Well the spokes looks different but it's hard to tell. I think your wheels are newer.
My wheels look nearly the same as the originals
This is the only picture I have without the bike:

Anyway, I asked my dad to do some measurements. Stupid I didn't think of this before

Re: YZF750swing, I need some measurements!
Some measurements. Between the rim and swing it's 36 mm and 38 mm. So it is almost in the middle.
The distance between the reaction rod (what is that thing called in proper english?) and the rim is only 16 mm.
The Marvic rim is 0,5 inch wider then the original YZF rim.
Aaah, amai!

It's the sound you make when riding a Yamaha:phuk72 wrote:would your rear disk be upside down by any chance or is AHAMAY a new tuning shop

Re: YZF750swing, I need some measurements!
Thanks a lot, much appreciated! Interesting that there's a small difference, I guess You have the wheel correctly lined up and no odd chain/sprocket wear? Which side was which?
Is Your rear rim 6 ''? Mine is 5,5, and the YZF is the same.

I don't know which one is which sideHansJ wrote:Thanks a lot, much appreciated! Interesting that there's a small difference, I guess You have the wheel correctly lined up and no odd chain/sprocket wear? Which side was which?

Although the wheels were made back in 1993 they are especially for the YZF, so they fit right in and line up correctly.
The rear rim is 6" indeed, so wider then original. That's why I have a 190 tire on it right now
Chain/sprocket are just refreshed, but there was nothing weird going on with the old set.

Re: YZF750swing, I need some measurements!
More accurate:
left:34,03 mm
right: 33,34mm
The difference with earlier is because of the edge on the swing, now it is measured in the middle of the swing (without the edge).
