Brake Upgrade to my Beloved - it does make a difference

Post by Loud Pipes save Lives » Mon Mar 03, 2008 4:47 am

Hello fellow Rex nuts,

Just letting you all know that on the weekend i successfull converted my 96 trx with new blue spot R1 (98-00) front calipers.

The confidence i have with braking know is an understatement. I was a little sceptable of this upgrade and thought brakes are brakes. But i was wrong.

I have also obtained an R1 98-00 rear caliper, which will be a project in its self. the bracket required is completey different to the standard Trx's

My Father-in-law is a fitter and turner so he said is shouldnt be too hard to produce a braket to allow the standard stablility bar to still be connected.

I have also added Hel Braided brake lines to front and rear.

If others have added Blue spots on the frount and back, could you show the braket you replaced to fit the different shape caliper.

when the father in law is free we will produce a braket, hoping in a week or so.

I will post photos and dimentions for others to copy if they wanted to take this mod of upgrading rear brakes

search is your friend

I used the standard R1 mount, had that turned down in places and used a new torque arm. Not difficult but not easy either.

I cant see why theres a need for upgrading the rear caliper.
mine has got the standard caliper and a brembo master cylinder (on when i got it)
and its bloody awesome, i've never had a bike with a rear brake like it.

there is no need

that said the rear brake as standard is almost too powerful and lacks any real finesse (IMHO) for trail braking into corners on track

my bluespot looks better as well (which is reason enough for me)
