Like a longer, softer TLS.... Could be great with a few tweaks though! :D

Thanks guys! I think you've kinda put the idea out of my head. That's what I love about the TRX - such an easy bike to ride quickly and sooooo much fun. I'm just seduced by the power of the TL1000S...and kinda the looks too! Do I actually NEED more power? Probably not. Do I WANT more power? YES! I woudn't consider a TLR, it looks just like everything else. Firestorm - to common. Someone mentioned an RSV or SP1/2. Problem is $$$! Also the wife has a Aprilia sportcity scooter and the build quality just isn't up there with the Japanese bikes.

I wouldn't compare the build quality of a cut price scooter to an RSV! Also Firestorm's are common for a reason, I wouldn't write it off until you've ridden it.

Point taken, but I wouldn't call a $7500 scooter cut-price! She had a honda scooter before and that was top-notch quality wise. I also checked out the lastest Factory RSV in a showroom. While it looks stunning if you look closely the fit and finish quality just isn't quite there... and that makes me nervous! The whole reason I don't like the Firestorm IS because it's popular. Also the styling is a bit understated IMO. Nothing wrong with wanting to be a bit different, hence owning a TRX! :)

$7500  That'd be a mint TRX wouldn't it? But I totally agree, my Honda Blackbird's build quality is something else, pity the TRX isn't up to the same standard.

Agreed again, Firestorms are fantastic bikes but hardly unique.

More power than the TRX and better looks than the Firestorm? Did you think of the Aprila SL1000 Falco?

TLS's are definately not cobbled together. They handle pretty good and are fookin' fast.... Here's me back in '97!

I'm now on my second Aprilia. I reckon the build quality is easily as good as the better Japanese bikes.

What is build quality anyway?

Component quality is better than most manufacturers IMHO.

The Shiver has Stainless fasteners all round. How many Japanese bikes have that?

Forgot about the Falco - very nice. Loads of go. And cheap over here.

I've just had a look on http://www.aprilia.com.au and it looks like the Falco hasn't made it to Australia! :(
However after spending a weekend on the TRX and seeing a really tatty TL1000S I think I'll be sticking with what I've got for a while! :)

Not true.. Falco was sold in OZ but is now deleted at factory,.. mate of mine has yellow one like in the photo and I have done a fair few kays on it.. later jobbies called the SL1000r came in black and red colours. I would consider one as a TRX replacement.

Compared to TRX it has

-Way more snot, with a very angry feeling engine, but is quite top-endy for a twin
-Original clip-ons are no where as well placed as TRX and the thing as stock is very uncomfortable. Mate has put helibars on his after a lowside crash and it is much better. Some times it is hard to remember what a good ride position the TRX has.
- feels taller and longer than the TRX with a higher CofG... & needs a committed, positive riding style. Can feel bus like if you are timid.
- Forks good, shock crap. Add ohlins... much better
- Friggin impressive fuel economy. Falco owned by ex A-grade racer but on our fun thrashes it gets 25% better economy and gets away from us at will ( other bikes TRX, SV650, 1050 Sprint, BMWr1200r)
-Servicing costs can be high, and the front cambox is a c*#t. Get seal slightly pinched and it will randomly blow out oil . Bike is stone axe reliable and well built however. Dry sump donk like all the best bikes
- Falls off sidestand if rear tyre has a slow leak
- half fairing better than TRX, headlights best I have ever used.

So Falco/SL100r is a sort of mega TRX, and like the TRX works better with a bit of fettling

DFH
Now with 140,000 on the clocks, X-mas tree didn't kill it & I still love it.

Yeah, I'm an idiot! As soon as I posted my last post I found a few Falco's on the secondhand market.
I'm getting interested in this bike now. It sounds pretty good. Interesting that you say about the clip-ons position. No review I've read mentions this. All reviews say that it's the most comfy bike in its class! I personally find the TRX comfy except for the ass area!! Was there a shortage of foam padding in Japan in the late 90's or something!??! :)
