After the cans should I go for the jets?!

Post by TWISTEDTWIN » Fri Jan 25, 2008 8:20 am

Hi

I just bought a set of Motad Venom s/s exhaust cans (with removable road legal insert) from ebay(total bargain by the way, 80 quid for the set just because of a minor esthetic defect !!), I'm planning to help the flow with a K&N air filter and I was wondering if anyone has suggestions regarding the main jets, how much would I need to upgrade them considering that the there is a removable baffler, would I have to make a choice on the best set up (with or without baffler)?
Anyway, tips and suggestions are welcome!

Cheers

I would say, it depends on how you will use your bike the most, with or without baffler.

Stock the TRX runs slightly rich so more than likley free flowing cans and air filter will sort out the mixture. Probably will not have to rejet

Agree with Phuk.

I ran scorpion cans with a K&N replacement panel filter on standard jets and all was fine.

How many KM / miles has your TRX done ? The Emulsion tubes do wear out, and if you can smell it being a bit rich (if you know what to smell for) and it has a slightly rough idle, or it pulses / pops at higher revs, you might want to change them.

Its a very common thing on TRXs to go. Change them, and its all sweet.

It should, but will it be noticeble  (only on a dyno I guess  )

I've run mine with stock jet's K&N airfilter and race cans with bafflers and it all worked fine (although later I've had the emulsion tubes problem).
Changing the jets (for stage1 TOVAMI/Dynojet), exit bafflers and some new tubes and needles, it ran MUCH better 8). Now with Stage3 (170 main jets) and some separate K&N airfilters, the REX growls like nothing else  (and it goes faster 2  )

After buying my trx aready fitted with staintunes with inserts removed, dyno results showed a rich mixture. Std carbs come with on 2 options in main jets, std and lots of gas.. larger jetts had been fitted but after contacting staintune about the jetting, the cans where built for std jetting.. my advise would be to contact manufacturer and enquire..(cost of an e mail) I gained just over another 6hp by returning back to std jetting.
fitting the K and N filter seemed to give the bike a better feel power wise down low but was fitted before dyno test and std jetts fitted.. Saves me money on services tho being a cleanable filter. You will feel the power difference when cleaned if left to get a little dirty especially in the lower spectum of the power curve..
