Are TRX con rods the same as TDM con rods?

That's my thought too.

I have a rod from your old motor, marked 3VD on one side and on the other YF. I have a rod from a 270 TDM, also marked 3VD on one side and YH on the other.

The cap on the TRX rod is marked F and the TDM rod is marked H.

Any ideas?

Ring you local Yam dealer, ask him to look at his microfiche for trx and tdm conrods and see if the part numbers for both are the same.

yes they are the same shape, but they are actually different.

The TDM will bolt onto a TRX, and they are a few grams lighter im told.

The internal webbing on the "I" beam is slightly thinner, but fairly deceptive to the eye. Otherwise you shouldnt have a problem.
