does my engine need a rebuild

Post by steve speed » Mon Nov 26, 2007 10:01 pm

my motor is a 1997 engine and its clocked 17000 miles but that's only a guess it returns about 47mpg and uses about 500ml of oil per 1000 miles Ive done a compression test on a warmed up motor and i got 167 psi on the left pot and 170 on the right when i put a teaspoon of oil down each pot i got 184 psi on the left and 180 on the right it starts easy with no choke unless its really cold then it needs a bit ,,,what do the engine heads think ?? does it need a top end strip down ,,, thanks in advance

What carbs are you running?

The way you describe it, I'd be happy with it. My only concern would be the starting without choke, but as you're getting good fuel economy it'd probably nothing to worry about.

Does it rattle?

I'd be happier with yours than with mine in that case.
