Anybody done an "old style" cafe racer conversion?

Post by lloegrfach » Sun Oct 14, 2007 5:47 pm

Hi all,

I'm really keen to do a classic cafe racer conversion on my TRX. I was wondering if anybody has already done one and, if, so, could post some pics? Basically I'm thinking of whipping off the fairing and putting a big Bates style light on there. Then I'll throw away the back end and fit a basic single seat, nice and flat. I'd like to fit an alloy tank but I may cheat and just spray it to look like I've done lots of work!!!

Any hints / help / warnings appreciated!

Thanks,

Richard

I'd thought of doing similar. Only issue I can see is how to mount the clocks.

problem you're going to have is the frame is basically the wrong shape for a café racer.

you could whack a bikini fairing and a different seat unit on. . . but you will never get the lines

....and they are very hard to come by for the TRX. I've spent the last 12 months searching. So far I've only found one dude who will take TRX cast wheels machine the spokes off the center and then weld flanges to the center. $3000 thank you sir.

... well each to their own (personally I don't like 'fighters and prefer the cafe-racer style) The black one looks a bit short n' squat for a 'racer, the orange one could be mistaken for a Jota but the silver one is getting somewhere close. I guess what they all need is a longer lower tank but as a concept .... great, go for it.
