Finally ordered some Factory pro emulsion tubes, but....
i have 3 sets of carbs.
does it matter which ones i use? is it worth finding out which ones are the worse of the bunch?
i have a set that have a dyno jet kit in them, should i bother trying that set, or does the emulsion tube kit eliminate anything that would have been done by the dyno jet kit?
it's just that i have those carbs off the bike and i could take my time to do the emulsion tubes then swap the carbs over another time.
i have tried the dyno jetted carbs on the bike, but i didn't know about the TPS setup trick back then and never set it, it ran like crap and stunk of fuel. i'm just worried that not all of that was down to the TPS setting and might have been the jet kit itself.

I changed the emulsion tubes about 10,000 miles ago a mixture of factory pro tubes and dyno jet needles think I run on 3rd or 4th groove from the top and I only changed the main jet that dyno jet advised my bikes done about 30,000 miles and runs sweet as a nut fuel consumption is pretty good if your looking for that don't know about the power at the back wheel but it's OK for me.I'll find out the exact settings if you need them let me know.

phat you wont believe this but last night i to orderd needle jets from factory pro (i cant find any fcr carbs yet )anyway reading through there site they also do titanium needles but the one thing we both need to look at is the wear on the slide ,if this can rattle back and forth a lot it will wear out the needle jet again very quickly that's what factory pro say so iam going to have a good look at this ,,the needle jets are plated brass so they should last a lot longer

spooky!
is the slide the black plastic bit the needle attches to?
also, i thnik i may have worke dout why my bike feels so flat. when i did the seat unit o moved the fuel pump up and put it on it's side. a mate has just poitned out to me that it HAS to be gravit fed and thus well below the tank oulet, and probably vertical too, not laid on it's side..
would explain it won't pull at all at 6000rpm in top.

yes that's the slide its in a grove in the carb and the plastic wears out i bet they are 6 million pounds from Yamaha ,,and yes the pump should be vertical as your mate saidPhatVR6 wrote:spooky!

also, i think i may have worked dout why my bike feels so flat. when i did the seat unit o moved the fuel pump up and put it on it's side. a mate has just signed out to me that it HAS to be gravity fed and thus well below the tank outlet, and probably vertical too, not laid on it's side..

It's vacuum fed and so placement makes no difference at allPhatVR6 wrote:spooky!

It shouldn't make any difference where the pump is placed (even above the fuel tap).PhatVR6 wrote:even if it was placed higher than the outlet of the tank?
it was noticeably flatter the less fuel i had.
i bet that's why it wouldn't run on reserve, not enough "head" to push the fuel into the pump.
Are you sure that the vacuum pipes are not pinched / cracked / holed/

phat i striped my carbs down today and this is what i found the carbs are std set up with 142.5 main jets the main needle shows no signs of wear and they are stainless steel the carb slide and the slide holder ,that's the black bit the slide and the slide holder the grey bit shows no signs of wear but they are a slack fit with about 10 thou of clatter the needle jet is oval as suspected and as most have found,,, my new needle jets left factory pro on the 10 Oct so should be here next week i was going to change the needles but i can not detect any wear the pilot jet is 2.5 turns out ,,float height is 9.5mm,, if any one has any input please feel free (but dont suggest FCRs as i cant find any yet ) hope this helps you out phat if you need any more info i will do my best,,, o and needle clip is in middle slot

i stripped mine down today too!
emulsion tubes visibly worn and oval. a few tiny scratches on the needles, I'll see what the other carbs are like when i take them off tomorrow (I decided to rebuild the dyno jetted ones)
float chambers were filthy, had red slimy deposits in them, so they got a good wash out with fresh petrol.
whilst they were in bits i also polished the bell mouths for a a bit better flow. totally pointless, and it'll probably give 0.000001% difference, but i was bored and the dremel was there. made sure they got a good wash out before putting back together.
I'll get them fitted tomorrow and check the fuel levels.
