Ideas about idling problems?

Post by Tarwetijger » Sat Oct 06, 2007 4:49 pm

Hi there, I would like to know your ideas about the following problem.
My TRX tends to shut off the engine after a little cruising, this happens during downshifting. So I just drive happily down the street untill I have to slow down. Close the throttle and grab the clutch (to change gears). The revs get beneath 500 rpm and the engine stalls. But! This does not always happen. And when you blip the throttle during downshifting it keeps running and standing still at some traffic lights or something, the engine just runs ~1000 rpm idle (so >500).

So any ideas what could be the problem here?
The bike has less then 25.000 km of experience.

:? Need a bit more info, does your bike idle properly when at a standstill, and when it stalls during downshift, are you letting the revs drop down to idle speed before pulling the clutch in, or does it stall no matter what the revs are.

inlet air leak?
split intake rubbers?
damaged pilot screw?
loose jets?
worn carbs?
out of balance?
etc

More info is hard because I have the bike very short and only drove 130 km. yet.
Important info is also: the bike runs fine! It runs good trough gears/revs and fuel consumption is very good (well, following the comments of the previous owner that is). So it's not just carb's that are worn out (otherwise I'll have noticed black smoke and high fuel consumption).

Yes, it does.

The last option, it doesn't matter. Just when you release the throttle and pull the clutch, the revs drops too low.

Wouldn't idling at stand still then be troublesome?
loose jets?
Could be, but fuel consumption isn't too high...
worn carbs?
Could be, but the bike isn't very old (yr 2000, < 25.000 km)
out of balance?
etc
Could be! I definitely have to check that.
